Any ideas on how I can practice my efficiency and urgency when Doubling In ? I don't think that hitting 25 more doubles alone would provide a relate-able practice experience as it's as much a mind set issue.
Double In - Need to get better

play lots of double in 101, 201 or 301 , perhaps move to a double like 11 or 6 to start games as a drop or too high may still find a double . better 22 or 12 than nothing
Pick a double you like and stay with it. I like the double 8 and usually can hit 1 out of 3 so I have a lot of confidence on it. Don't think about how bad you need to hit it or the consequences of not getting a start (negative thinking), think about the target, aim, align and release. I do a modified A-1
double 20-10-16-8-4-2-1 to start. have to hit one for a mark - 3 marks closes. if miss with 3 darts move on to next number - keep going around until all is closed.
No easy answer mate. Years and years of daily practice an giving up large chunks of your life dedicated towards darts. And only then, will you have a slightly better chance of hitting a required double under pressure.
Early on I realized that, especially at the start of matches, my vertical control was far better than my lateral. So my odds were better if I went for tops than if I went for something toward the sides. Just knowing I was starting out with better-than-random odds helped my confidence, and confidence helped me relax, and relaxation helped the dart go into the D20, or maybe D5 or D1 (who cares, I'm away!). It still works for me, even though my lateral control is much better now. Might be worthless for you, but thought I'd throw it out.

13,6,10, are a good starting point, and plenty of practice. Shed. (12-08-2014, 04:25 PM)Nucky Wrote: Pick a double you like and stay with it. Pick your two favorites and work on them.
Pick a double that has another close to it, ie 14 and 11. If you throw too hard chance to hit 9s if too soft will drop in 11! hope that works
Much prefer the leagues whom play dble in dble out game and probably i tend to go dble 16
and if no joy then dble 14 ill go for.
My favorite starting numbers for a double in type of game are D6 and D13.
I personally go for D16 or D11 when i need to double in as i've been naturally good at those
Time consuming but in order to get off in a match using doubles, I do the following in my practice in the weeks before (I only have one or two comps where it's double in a year).
I simply walk up to the oche and throw my first dart at the chosen double and then retrieve it. Repeat over and over again until you're regularly hitting it first dart (more often than not). You then take this positive "can do" attitude into the game with you and even if you miss due to tension / nerves / what-ever, suddenly you find yourself with the luxury of two more darts, quite often with a handy marker which does wonders for the instant relaxation and confidence.
