Target Precision Silica Challenger 23g darts review

Video link = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTIv8kBPtFA

I got these a while ago and I know they are an older model from Target but after seeing the ones Rebel posted some time ago I thought they looked just right for me Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

They cost £34.20 from Puredarts: Silica Challenger 23g

They are in the older style Target packaging with the big foam insert and no case just the barrels, short nylon stems and Target slotted flights.

The barrels are 90% tungsten with a Silica coating which has a very nice bronze colour and is meant to be very hard wearing.

As you can see the barrels have a kind of soft edged style of razor grip at the rear which is not particularly grippy but has about a medium level of grip. At the front of the barrel is a very thin cut ring style which again is only about a low medium gip but the silica coating adds to the grip overall and has a very nice feel to it especially when it warms up in your fingers.

BALANCE:

With nothing attached the barrel is front weighted:

With the supplied set up the balance moves closer to the centre but still front biased:

Balance with my own medium, short and extra short nylon stems and standard flights:

Darts landed quite tail up with the supplied setup:

CONCLUSION:

I was really looking forward to trying these darts as I was certain they would work well for me. The shape of the barrel made me think they would be perfect. But I am sad to say I am very disappointed, for some reason they just don't feel right. When I first throw them out of the box the darts were spinning like crazy!

When I checked the flights I saw they were a little warped, guess they have been stored too long. So I swapped the stems for some mediums and put some 75 micron flights on. That cured the unnecessary and excessive spin but the darts were flying no better really Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I cant put me finger on what the issue is, I have tried them a few more times since doing the video review and still don't get on too well with them. I was sure they would suit my front grip perfectly but they seem to dip a little too quick in the air and I just don't feel right with the balance of them which is a shame.

I think the Silica coating on the darts is great though, it gives the darts a lovely browny bronzed look but has a very nice feel in the fingers. It seems to get better as it warms too and has an almost absorbent feel to it. Its just a pity I don't get on so well with the darts though Guests cannot see images in the messages. Another great review Darren :)

I also love the Silica coating, me favorite of them all, and I agree, it seems to get better as your hands warm up - also looks very nice too.

I never had the same issues with the darts spinning or wobbling but I was gripping just behind the smooth section - just behind half way along the barrel - found they went quite nice.

Only reason I got rid was not enough grip for me - spot on with the review though mate - +1

Yeah I do like the coating a lot although I wonder how much you could feel it with a sharper edged grip?

The white makes the darts stand out especially when they are coloured like these but it is more of a challenge to get the lighting right Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Outstandingly good review! I have a set of these and they are the only darts I can throw that fly true and straight. Just wish they had a set of these at 21gm.

Threw some 30mm black storms in these, as I do all my darts. I only threw for a few minutes, but I definitely like these darts. The grip isn't as aggressive as it looks, plus I love how the silica coating gets a tacky feeling when warmed up. I'm going to have to give these a real college try.

the grip is kind of soft edges really, its like a razor grip that's been well worn down, but the coating is very nice Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.
