Unicorn Keegan Brown 22g darts review

Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHAJcIPpmME&feature=youtu.be

Here we have a review of the Unicorn Contender Keegan Brown darts. As you may have seen recently this young guy played very well in the Grand Slam and looks like a great prospect.

These darts are 90% tungsten and have a gold ti coating which is very nice! They retail for £38 and come with a Unicorn Compact case, 8 flight protectors, medium gripper 2 stems with ring clips and a smaller standard size Keegan Brown signature flights.

As you can see the darts have a razor/shark style of grip and the bulk of that is past the centre point which is great for rear grippers, but the front section was just right too as it was nicely broken up with the 2 smooth sections with the grooves in. I think the gold ti coating adds to the grip level and overall I would say its a high level of grip.

WEIGHT:

Barrels were closely matched, 2 were the same weight and the third was just 3 hundredths of a gram difference:

Weight of the full setup as supplied:

BALANCE:

With nothing attached the barrel was weighted a little towards the front:

With the supplied set up it was just about central:

Balance with my own medium, short and extra short stems and standard flights:

My front grip with these darts:

Darts seem to fly quite flattish but still landed with my usualy upwards tilt:

Conclusion:

These are a much nicer dart than I was expecting, I think the gold ti looks great on these darts and they have a very nice level of grip without it been too edgy.

I found them to fly nice and stable and I think they flew a bit flattish and felt kind of zippy too. The balance was fine with my front grip but I think it may be even better for centre and rear grippers, also if your a rear gripper you have more of the razor grip to aid you but I felt the sections of razor grip at the front was very adequate for me.

I know the darts are 22g but they seemed to feel even lighter to me, I think I would have liked them even more in a slightly heavier weight but as they are they are very nice and look great!

Recommended if your after a nice grippy straight barrel dart. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Summary Ratings:

Looks: 8 (very nice looking darts)
Grip: 8 (on a 1 to 10 Scale, 10 been severe grip)

Quality: 8.5 (very nice quality)
Value: 7.5 (ok price)
Suitability for me: 7.5 (a nice dart to throw, feels zippy but stable and nice all round balance)

Great review...was thinking about a set of these or Razma's next.

Look like a great candidate for gold Storm points.

BTW....do you notice any difference between the gold plating on the new Contender/Global models when compared to the older Unicorn models?

Reason I ask is that I notice Unicorn always advertises the gold plating (on Barnevelds as example) as "Golden Titanium PVD non-slip grip" in the details/description....but you never see it mentioned in the Contender/Global model line. I'm guessing it's the exact same coating.

Another great review grip. Love gold darts but not many of the pros throw with them. I can only think of Andy Hamilton.
