Does anyone actually aim down the barrel of the dart? Or is it just a feel thing? It's not like a gun where you have sights. My drawback kinda ends around my temple now so it's off to the side of my head. Is this bad and needs corrected? Or does it not matter and it all comes together after many many repetitions for that pinpoint accuracy
aiming question

I was an aimer right up to the first time I played in a pub with bad light. I could see the board OK, but couldn't really see my hand in front of my face. Turns out that lots of pubs have light like that. So I'm not much of an aimer anymore.
I use to aim, often with the barrel lined up exactly on the target - which kind of blocks sight to the board. Currently trying to bring that a bit down, right below the target.
For me the main benefit is that it guarantees a proper setup, i.e. the dart is in the same position every time. Also, it makes dirty drawbacks pretty obvious to the eye.
I aim like Taylor says "like looking down the barrel of a gun" as ico says it assures consistency in aiming and you notice when your throw is wrong. But each to their own. What works for you may not work for someone else.
I don't want to hurt my ability by not aiming down the dart. But it just doesn't feel right doing it. I tried and it's just a blur unless I close one eye. Now that would be a sight
I'm concentrating on the target but the blurry image from my left eye is on target. I don't focus on the dart at all
I am right handed but left eye dominate, i gave up aiming long ago :p I aim more with my elbow if that makes sense
I don't have a dominant eye for the most part. I aim a gun with my left eye. Aim my bow with my right. Swing a baseball bat and golf right handed but do everything else left
I used to aim with the point but the other day I really concentrated on the T20 and was surprised that I hit it a few times, I think we all do it different but in most cases I think its just what you get comfortable and used to in the end.
I think I am right eye dominant. When I aim, I focus on the target and get the blurry dart in line with the target. At that point if I open only the right eye, the dart is still in line. If I open only the left eye, the dart is not in line. I believe that makes me right eye dominant. I am right handed as well so that works fine.
What is weird though is if I try to pull back straight to in front of my eye, I pull it more to the center of my face. If I try to pull it just to the right of my cheek, I think I pull it back straight to my eye. So Im in a weird spot... I want to pull back to my eye, but I can only do that by trying to pull back to my cheek. Im like you though Grebber, better to learn the way that has the most advantages now, rather than learn and then decide to change. |
