Hi Guys,
I know this sounds really weird but I need to change the way I throw. Almost every time I bring the dart back I hit my chin lol. It is driving me nuts. I have tried to consciously not draw it back as far, use short stems but I always end up hitting my chin. I have tried other ways of throwing, ie bringing it to the side of my face and launching it like a javelin Guests cannot see images in the messages. Do you guys have any other suggestions to stop me doing this? I need to change it because every time it hits my chin it changes the flight path of the dart.
TIA
Mikey

I have the same problem, I always hit my top lip and get cuts from the flights, its a nightmare. I find it strange throwing from the side and what I try to do now is angle the dart so it goes under my chin if I can. It still takes some getting used to though.

That is an interesting point. If I understand what you are staying basically my throw will start from close to my face first where I will hold it and then throw?

Have you thought about changing your head? Changing your throw seems a bit extreme

This may not be a conventional solution, but... I used to shoot with a guy who stood with toes of both feet right up to the oche, facing directly at the board. When shooting, he kept his shooting arm on the plane where it hung down from his shoulder. When he cocked his arm back as far as it went just before throwing the dart, his shooting arm and hand were still at the outside of his shoulder and his throwing hand never came anywhere near his head.
He was the only guy I ever saw shoot that way and he was actually pretty good. He wasn't a league leader or tournament winner and he didn’t have any trophies, but he was better than most shooters I’ve seen.

I couldn't agree more, the throw should be forearm, wrist and FOLLOW THRU!!

Hi Mikey,
Seriously now, you could try slowing your draw back down a little and I'm also wondering if you could try a heavier dart (don't buy some, see if you can try a mates) because you may also be throwing too hard.
Finally, as a a last resort, put your darts away for a while and then try to break the habit when you start up.
Good Luck Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Thanks Dorian,
I think I will try a heavier dart and see how I go with that. I don't have the wrist snap to do a shorter follow through.
