I think we all do that, its pretty much a learning process until you feel comfortable and confident you have settled your likely going to do it for a while. But I changed mine often until I found one that felt natural and comfortable and did not cause me aches.

I think you should walk up to the oche and dont think about it and throw, then stop still and check your stance, if it feels good then stick with it but remember you should only change one thing at a time.

The position of your feet and how much you lean etc can also affect the position of your throwing arm and shoulder alignment, so you will just need to try to be strict and try keeping the same stance for a while to see how it works, you can always make small adjustments as you progress.

What I did was walk to board and line my shoulder with the center and start from there. After several darts I could see where my natural drift sent the darts. I would then try moving left or right 6 inches and try some more. After a while you see a pattern develop and you hone in from there. You still will always have to adjust for a dart that may block your shot but you will have your starting point.

Some great advice - me personally, I only think about it while I am practicing or warming up.

I personally would find a foot position that you feel OK with, I for instance have my leading foot pointing at 11 o clock ( \ < something like that) and use my back foot for balance only ( _ < like that).

\
_
< so in essence from above my feet will look like that, or there abouts.

Use that as a start point, get in that position for practice routines and when you begin a warm up before a match.

Then once you get going...... forget about it!

Your brain will naturally do the tweaking, the more you think about it the more it will distract from the more important stuff like actually aiming and throwing the darts.
Once in the swing of throwing and the darts are flying your brain, in my opinion, will find and position your feet with whats most comfortable for you.

Over thinking things like stance, grip, arm movement etc all will break your concentration and focus once you start playing - I honestly believe that as long as you feel comfortable and relaxed with all of the above, any minor tweaking or adjusting will happen naturally as you relax into a game.

Thats how I deal with it anyway, maybe right maybe wrong, different things work for different people, either way I am sure it will come one way or another. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

ok, now where getting somewhere, thanks alot for the replys, just knowing that this is somewhat common has already helped my confidence and rhythm. i do over-think and try to make too many multiple changes. im ok with my toe position on the oche now, but thats about it.

horizontal ... with a natural comfortable throw my dart tracks slightly from right to left and i hit the 5 alot, ill twist my wrist right a little then bam i hit the 1, i take off a bit of the twist and hit the 20 (26) and im really good at this pattern, too good.

vertical ... if i focus on the trip 20 i might hit it once in a while but usually not, but if i focus above the trip 20 in the fat section, my darts will land close too and sometimes hit the trip 20 which is hard because i have to force myself not to stare at where i what my dart to go.

dart release ... sometimes i hold the dart at eye level and this seems to work well for D16 D8 D2, but bad for when im shooting for 20s , so i hold the dart higher at the top of my head when shooting at targets above the bulls.

i have many other things that i know need worked on but this is what im trying to fix 1st, so any help in these 3 area would be extremely appreciated.

thanks

I would also suggest filming yourself to see if there are any minor sways or movements in your throw motion. The sooner you can knock these out the better and sometimes you don't know that you're doing it until you can see your own throw.

Try looking at the position of the dart in your grip then see how it moves as you drawback and push forward, you may be changing its orientation without realising it.

I stand sideways like Taylor lining my shoulder, arm in line with the board. Once you have your alignment please do this!
STOP THINKING SO MUCH!!!!!!!

ty ty ty, i cant stop thinking all the time, but i did start standing sideways and noticed an immediate difference in comfort level (lead leg and lower back), horizontal accuracy and throwing rhythm.

There is no right or wrong to stand at the oche, IMO.
To me the best stance, grip, throw are what is natural for you, personally.

As long as you comfortable and it's not causing any problems just stick with it and practice.
If you start changing things it is just another little thing in your head to stress about and blame when you have a bad day.

^^ Agreed! Sometimes it is hard, but it is the way forward

ok, thanks for all the advice, had a real good practice session tonight, as counseled ive just been throwing my way and not trying to mimic someones elses throw. have dialed in to a almost sideways throw, very high release at the top or slightly above my head, and launch the dart with alot of velocity and very little arc.

:dartsthrow: <---- heres a video of my throw Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.
