Winmau Peter Manley 23g darts review

Vid Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOvRmx5NbG4&list=UUFOUzs58B7425JEDXkBLoGQ

These darts have been in my drawer since I bought them nearly 2 years ago! (Nov 2012) Finally got round to reviewing them Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I bought them when they first came out from Puredarts.co.uk but I think I paid more than what the current price is which is £19.20.

Here is the link: Manley darts

There is 3 steel tip weights available 20, 21 and these which are 23 grams. They are 85% tungsten and a short front weighted dart. They come with medium nylon stems fitted with spring clips and Peter Manley Winmau signature standard shape flights. Also included is a Winmau plastic case and point protector and there is also a checkout chart printed on the reverse of the inlay card:

As you can see they have quite a thick front end and a couple of deep wide grooves around that chunky main ring at the front. They are fitted with black finger grip points. The level of grip is only medium at best but the tungsten has a kind of tacky feel too it, not sure if that's because its been stored away for the past 2 years though?

Dimensions:

Length:

They are only a very short barrelled dart:

Width:

The front of the barrel is quite thick:

Detailed Dimensions:

Weight:

Darts were closely matched, just 3 hundredths of a gram difference:

Weight of the full setup as supplied:

Balance:

As you would expect its a very front weighted dart:

With the supplied set up the balance moves more central and I think its because the stems are medium size which helps to balance the weight more:

Balance with my own medium, short and extra short stems and standard flights:

I gripped the darts on the front naturally and found the deep grooves were giving me a little extra gripping stability:

Darts landed very tail up as I would expect with these and my throw:

Conclusion:

Not sure why I left it so long to try these but any way I wish I had got the 21g version now, I think the 23g was feeling a little too front heavy and I just don't think my throw has the same strength as it used to but my shoulder is still sore too so that does not help. I think the darts fly very stable in regards to wobble left and right because of its front weighted nature they seem to quickly move into a fixed plane of flight but for me they were mostly dropping in height a little too quickly.

I don't think that would have been an issue with my old throw from about 6 or 7 years ago and I think these would have been just perfect then, but I found myself trying to throw the dart a bit uppish to compensate. It was getting a little easier to throw as I got used to them though, but I think I may give the 21g version a try at some point as I quite like the feel of them in my fingers. I seemed to get a little extra grip from the deep grooves at the front and it was feeling nicely balanced in my fingers there.

I think these are really suited best to front grippers but I think centre grippers who like a front heavy dart may also get on with them too.

I feel that such dart shapes like these kind of throws the weight off to what may be your normal weight, so even though they are 23g they kind of feel more like a 25g dart when holding at the front, so bear that in mind.

Also they are quite chunky at the front which wont suit everyone but they are nice quality and a very fair price too Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Summary Ratings:

Looks: 7 (look fine)
Grip: 6.5 (on a 1 to 10 Scale, 10 been severe grip)
Weight match: 8.5 (close)
Quality: 8 (feel nice quality)
Value: 8 (Pricey but I think we know why)
Suitability for me: 6.5 (think I need a lighter version)

Best Feature: Chunky grip (if you like that sort of thing) Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Lovely looking darts! Thanks for the wonderful pictures.
I always appreciate front loaded darts review!

I think the darts will look even more awesome with neon pink nylons and black flights :p
I have a similar set of darts (Media Gordon Shumway) and even though they are only 22g they feel like way more because of how all the weight are all on their large heads.
Very different from say Priestley or Simon Whitlock's.

As always, I enjoy your review. Keep it up!

Thanks Mr K!

They are not a bad dart at all but I think I will need to try the lighter set.

LOL still got the Bobby George darts I got at the same time too, they have not been thrown but I have a set of Target darts that have been in there for about 5 years now and never thrown, they were not a cheap set either Guests cannot see images in the messages. There's a difference between collecting and hoarding. You might very well be the ladder.
