85 Out

So playing doubles 501 last night in league, my partner leaves me with 85. The other team is on an out as well, so I pretty much know I need to take it out in three darts.

I step to the oche, with the plan of T15-D20. I hit the single 15, leaving 70, then proceed to hit a single 20 (my thinking being T20-D5 or S20-Bull giving me 2 dart out options). I then miss the bullseye by a hair. The other team then hits their out, my only loss on the night.

So I ask - 85 left, would you go the same route, T15-D20? If you hit the single 15 (i.e. leaving 70 with 2 darts left), whats your shot selection, knowing you need to take it out ASAP?

T18-D8 was another thought I had, but if i single the 18, then I have 1 dart left and no out. I had just come from behind in cricket the game before where I had to hammer bullseyes to win, so i was feeling pretty good with the bullseye out Guests cannot see images in the messages. If opponent is on a checkout I'd go for the bull first dart, if it's in the 25 it's 20 and d20
If it's in the bull's eye, 3/19 and d16/d8

If the opponent isn't on a possible 2 dart finish, I go t15 d20

I would have went T15 as well but would have went differently after. If I hit S15 I would probably go T18 D8. I can't hit the bull area for the life of me. So I try to find alternatives if at all possible so as not to throw at bull. If I ever get better at bull I will start using it for finishing.

The 15's route is probably the standard, but I prefer to go for T19, D14 - a single 19 leaves 16, Bull or T16, D9

Bull first... risky. If you miss the 25, you're anywhere. T15 is the less risky way, imo. You had your dart at it, and just got beat. I'd say that's not a bad loss.

Agreed. If my partner doesn't leave me 85... If I hit the trip 15... If I hit the trip 20 even... I had my chance(s), didnt hit the shot. It happens.

All you can ask for is having at least one dart at a double, which is why, with 70, I went to 20s.

If I go trip 18, and hit a single, now i have 52 left with 1 dart, at which point I probably go fat 12 (since my partner likes D20), and pray the other team misses Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Thats one reason (of many) I think this site is the best. There's a ton of experience here, and these discussions get you thinking and looking at things from a different perspective. And youre absolutely right, we practice as well as talk about things here so that they're second nature at the line.
