Video review link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TojM1tWAamQ

Firstly thanks to Slot (Jordi) for letting me review these darts, O ordered them from Red Dragon for him and he asked me to review them first Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Here is the link to the darts on the Red Dragon site: Snakebite 5

As we know there is 8 models of Peter Wrights darts available and this is the Snakebite 5 which are only available in 23g and retail for £37.50. They are a mostly black PVD coated dart and they come with a RD Tri fold wallet they are 95% tungsten and are supplied with a set of nylon med stems with stem clips and a set of medium alloy stems and the very nice Snakebite standard flights and also a set of Team Red Dragon standard flights and a point protector, a nice little package overall Guests cannot see images in the messages. As you can see in the pics and close ups above the barrels have 2 distinct grip styles, the front is a classic ring grip and the rear is made of a grippier thinly cut ring grip. The front is a medium and the rear is a high med grip but the nice PVD coating at the front adds a touch to the grip too.

Dimensions:

Length:

These were a very similar size to the Painters I just reviewed just slightly longer:

Width:

These were a touch thinner than the Painters but I cant say I felt a big change:

Detailed Dimensions:

Weight:

Barrels were very closely matched, just 4 hundredths of a gram difference:

weight of the full setup as supplied:

Balance:

With nothing attached the balance was towards the front a little, I suspect that is more to do with the tungsten been cut out more at the rear grip:

with the supplied set up it moved pretty much bang in the middle:

Balance with my own medium, short and extra short nylons and 100 micron standard flights:

My grip was at the front as usual so I could not take advantage of the nice thinly cut rear grip but like I said the PVD coating felt nice there Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Darts landed mostly uppish but not all the time:

Conclusion:

These are great looking darts, did I mention I like the Snakebite flights? Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

The PVD coating sets the look of the dart off as it contrasts nicely with the exposed silvery tungsten between the thin rings at the rear. As the dart has most of the grip on the rear then I guess you can say they are designed with a rear grip in mind but they felt fine with my grip at the front and the PVD coating seems to add a nice feel to the barrel.

As I said they remind me a lot of the Painter darts I just reviewed, they behaved very similar through the air and have a nice stable flight although I think may be the Painters suited me a touch better but there was not much in it, the weight of these been a gram heavier felt about right for me too.

There is a lot to like about these darts, I think if your a middle to rear gripper the thin cut rings work very well without been to aggressive and as I said front grippers should be happy too Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

A very nice dart Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I've always wanted these, but they are expensive... and red dragon's shipping is expensive. The 2 combined have always been a deal breaker.

Great review Darren! I really like the look of those darts -black & silver. I am already in the midst of having some black darts modified in this fashion. Can't wait to see them

what amazes me about your reviews is that your pictures show off the grip of the dart so much better than the manufacturers own pictures. even in the largest picture of these on the RD website, it is hard to see the rear groove configuration. the RD site it appears to be a kind of LP / ghost grip. Your pictures show it to be something a little different.

great review as always

Cheers Rich, I think the light played tricks with the grip pattern on the full barrel pic, it makes it look wavy Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

on your close ups it seems a little different to ghost grip though. lovely darts i must say. although the snakebite 8's weren't for me they were really well balanced. i see those come with luminous shafts rather that the fluo one's mine came with. i wonder if they really are glow in the dark. that woudl be very cool

I don't think its a ghost/micro grip but just a very thin cut grip. Jordi will have them soon so he can test if they glow in the dark or not Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.
