Winmau Zagato 24g darts review

Here is a review of the Winmau Zagato 24g, these are from Red Dragon darts and retail for £49.90 here is the link: Zagato 24g

They are a 90% tungsten dart and as you can see from the following pics they come in some fancy packaging. The packaging has a foam insert which is quite tightly packed and a bit tough to get out so be careful, best to open both ends then push it through. There is a magnet on the lid which keeps it closed. Supplied with the darts is some medium alloy stems and tough Rhino standard Zagato flights and a round alloy point protector.

I think there are quite an attractive looking dart and as you can see the grip section at front and rear look quite aggressive but it is not as severe as it looks. I would still say its near a high level of grip but the angles of the razors are not steep and they are widely spaced so that grip is very nice without been too severe. At the very rear of the barrel is some elongated notches but they only aid rolling grip.

Balance:

With nothing attached the barrels were front weighted:

Balance moved at bit closer to centre with supplied set up but still a bit front weighted:

Balance with my medium, short and extra short nylon stems and standard flights:

I gripped these close to the end of the front razor grip section:

The darts landed mostly quite flat in the board:

Conclusion:

I was expecting the grip on these to be off putting as it looked like it was going to be too strong for me but it was not as severe as I thought when I got to throw the darts. I quite like the grip overall, it has a nice spacing to the edges so it provided enough grip without that stickiness that I find on other more sharply angled razor grips.

The darts seem to be very nice quality but they were not flying too well for me, they seem to be a bit flat so may suit people who have a flat throw better, they were fish tailing a little at first until I adjusted my grip a touch by moving a little closer to centre. Balance was better there and they flew better from then on.

The packaging is quite fancy and I guess as a whole package it has a nice air of quality but you cant play darts with the box so I wonder how much of the price is been paid for that?

They are certainly a nice looking dart but overall I don't think they suited me, but that grip is nice! Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Summary Ratings:

Looks: 8 (nice looking darts)
Grip: 7.5 (on a 1 to 10 Scale, 10 been severe grip)
Weight match: 7.5 (quite close)
Quality: 8 (nice quality package overall )
Value: 7 (decent value)
Suitability for me: 6.5 (Was ok but had to adjust a little)

Best Feature: Balance - Grip is nice without been too aggressive Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Another super review.
Think the darts are overpriced though as they are a reasonably standard shape and grip cut. As you say though, I think the fancy packaging has been used here to bump up the price and make the darts look better - which it does as that is sexy packaging lol

Nice review Darren- not for me though as they have that 12mm smooth where I place my thumb- lots of dart makers do that and that puts me off.

Where do they get the names of their darts? There's Zagato, then Milano. Next is Ashton, and then Martin.

I was looking at that point protector.

Are both side the same? You could use that for the Diddle for the Middle coin toss!

Yes more simple names would be easier to pronounce, how about Bob, Frank, Stan Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.
