Thanks for posting, it is useful but I think some manufacturers have differing lengths which is why I started a thread on the old forum for people to post pics of what they buy and what they are supposed to be and what they actually measure. I only posted a few stems in it, but I will port it over here and maybe people can start adding to it to use as a reference.

I found out about the different makers having different lengths last weekend. My missus needs some new stems, so I get the vernier out and measure her old ones. To my supprise, all the ones I looked at online at a few different sites were 2-4mm longer or shorter than hers were.

Stems are one item that could benefit from a 'standard' for measuring.

'Medium', 'short', etc isn't any help as all manufacturers make their 'medium' stems to a different standard. And a number of websites will provide Measurements for one 'medium' stem 'including threads' and then another 'excluding threads'.....makes what should be a very simple purchase a headache.

Most accurate way I've found to measure stems is to measure from the base of the stem to the base of the flight slot.
If manufacturers (or at least websites) provided this measurement, there would be a lot less confusion as to which stem to buy. I'd know I was buying a '34mm' stem and not a '40mm' stem or '30mm' stem. And it eliminates discrepancies between extra short, shaft, inbetween, medium ideas between manufacturers.

thanks for putting this up. It definitely is useful and I don't consider you a tool for not knowing all of the lengths. For years I thought there were only three lengths. Short, medium, and long lol

I've ordered and been "testing" shafts recently with my father; trying to determine what best suits our throws. We've ordered various aluminum shafts from various places; and there is a slight difference among manufacturers. I had though the "short" stems were for me, but for the past week or so, I have been liking the Xtra Short stems a bit more.

I have found that even among the Xtra shorts, that length can vary from 28-32mm.
