One80 Cutlass Review: The Rear Grippers Dream Dart

First of all I need to get a few things out of the way before I get into the details. I wish I stumbled upon this review a long time ago but the journey is part of the process. You see, I realize that darts is an individual game but I also realize, after reading some of Grip's reviews, that a little bit of input can go a long ways.
If you grip the dart from the rear and are searching for a dart that might fit you, these darts are a must try.
Today I am reviewing One80’s Cutlass 21g darts from their Sword Edge line. I was very worried about the weight at first but went ahead and bought them anyways. I started off throwing 26g, with 24g being my comfort zone and 23g was the lowest I would previously throw with. However, I am thrilled to say that the unique shape of this dart matches my rear grip perfectly and I haven’t even noticed the weight difference.
Personal Opinions:
After much trial and error I realized I gripped the back of the dart like this:

When I read Grip’s review on the Harrow Wolfram’s I noticed he said they may work for someone with a rear grip and boy did they. I still love that dart. The shape of the Wolfram really lends itself to a rear type grip. I was also curious about scallops so I tried some rear scallop darts like the RD dragonflies and the Jamie Caven 2014. I liked the idea of the scallop darts but none of them seemed to fly as well as the Wolframs. Enter the One80 Cutlass.
Here is my grip with these darts.

The barrel has a very unique shape to it; one that I would argue is almost solely designed for a rear type grip. Take a look at the back of the barrel, it's almost impossible to see this using the online pictures.

The yellow areas are where I place my thumb and the slight incline almost feels like a type of scallop without actually being one. This makes it very easy for repeating the same grip.
Another thing I didn’t realize was just how long the points were. I have never played with a dart of this nature. Take a look at how long the point is compared to the barrel.

The taper of the nose and the long points lend themselves to some of the easiest achieved grouping I have ever seen from a dart. Here are a couple of unedited photos:

The uniqueness of this dart really sets it apart from a lot of others on the market. They just don’t make many like this, however don’t let this detour you. This is one of the best sets of darts I have ever thrown with.
It has been the only set of darts that seem to fly well for me no matter the flight shape or stem length combination I put on the dart. I can throw pear shape, kite shape, standard shape, short stems to long stems and I can normally never throw some of those flight shapes. I attribute a lot of this to the balance and shape of the dart.
Now on to the specs.
Dart Details:
The official specs on these are:
95% VHD tungsten
Length 51mm
Width: 7.1 mm
Don’t let the width fool you. It is at the back of the barrel and these darts can easily group as seen in the pictures above.
The darts come in this packaging and have a solibox included.

Quick note about the solibox: The flights it comes with will more than likely be warped because they have been in the solibox awhile. I wont give you a review of it here b/c we have some already on here but my quick 2 cents is this. The solibox is terrible for long term darts storage but fantastic at short term, going from point A to point B, type of storage.
The darts come out of the box like so:

For never claiming to be match weighted these are extremely close

Only off by 4 100th’s of a gram!
Here are the balance points of the barrel and supplied setup:

Now with medium, tweeny and short stems

Notice how far back the center of balance is, it would be even further back if it wasn't for the point which I believe makes for an awesome rear grip dart.
Here is the barrel compared to 24g wolframs and 25g C3’s

Conclusion:
Man am I glad I took a gamble on these. I don’t think they will work for everybody. Heck I think they would be downright impossible if you hold the dart at the front. But, if you have a rear grip these just might be your dream dart. The craftsmanship is impeccable and the solibox is a nice bonus.
Value: 9/10 a little bit expensive but adds unique features
Grip: 4/5 on the main ridges 3.5/5 on the back end of the dart. These darts offer a nonslip grip but it’s not so aggressive it catches your fingers on every throw.
Suitable for me: 10/10 Will be hard to go back to another shape/balance dart
I would recommend buying these from Mike at infinitidarts or Andy at perfectdarts, both of these guys are top notch.
This is my first ever dart review, with pictures taken from my cell phone. It's not perfect but I hope you enjoy it! Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.
