Elkadart Retro Pin Up 23g darts review

This is a review of the Elkadart Retro Pin-Up 23g darts. They are 90% tungsten and have a mini shark grip. They come in plastic clam shell packaging with this nice 50's style pin-up theme. The darts are supplied with medium alloy stems pre-fitted with rubber "O" rings (thankfully!) and standard retro pin-up flights, there is also a point protector and plastic Elkadart case. They retail for £17.99.

As you can see from the above pics they are quite an elegant looking dart and the barrels are mostly made up of the mini shark grip as shown in the close up above. I would liken this grip to a similar level to micro grip maybe a touch grippier, but I think it probably lasts longer than micro grip. They are a similar style to the Elkadart Golden Ti darts I reviewed but the grip on the Retro darts is cut a little narrower and less of an angle, and these are more of a straight even barrel.

Detailed Barrel Dimensions:

Weight:

As you can see below the barrels are very closely matched, just 3 100ths of a gram difference and at worse 17 100ths of a gram under 23g (the stated weight) so very good really Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Weight of the full set up as supplied:

Barrels with nothing attached are just slightly front of centre so an evenly balanced dart overall:

Balance is more centred with supplied set up:

Balance with medium, short and extra short nylon stems and standard flights:

My grip with these darts:

Darts landed in the board in the usual way for me slightly tail up:

Conclusion:

These are fantastic darts for the money, the grip is very much to my liking and I think this mini shark grip is becoming my favourite over micro grip. Whats good about this grip is it should last longer than micro grip due to the way its angled, so that a good thing in my book! Guests cannot see images in the messages. The darts have a very nice elegant look about them and with them being fairly short at 45mm the balance was more suited to my front grip but I think they will suit middle grippers nicely if you don't need a long dart. They had just about the right thickness for me at 6.8mm, but that's very much a personal thing and might be too thick for some.

At only £17.99 these darts are a steal for a 90% tungsten set! Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Overall I was quite impressed with the quality of these for such a price. Very nice darts!

Summary Rating:

Looks = 9/10 (Nice Elegant stylish barrels )
Grip = 6.5 (on a 1 to 10 scale or level)
Weight match = 9 (very close)
Quality = 8/10
Value = 9/10 (Great value! )
Suitability for me = 8/10 (felt nicely balanced but love the grip)

Nice looking darts and cracking review as always. That close up on the micro shark grip doesn't do them any favours though lol

Thanks Danny, I wouldn't worry too much about that, its more the camera and light that picks up little things like that, you cant see that with your eyes really Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Great review as always Getagrip. I am really like the line of darts Elka puts out. Love my Titaniums. I would really like to give these a go as well. Do they come in any heavier weights? I am thinking of trying a 25g dart when I get some cash.

Yeah they have a 25g but I think the barrel is slightly different.

Wish these were a bit closer to 50 mm long as they are nice but I prefer a longer barrel . Great review as always

Another top review Darren (+1) - very nice looking darts and very similar to what I prefer, except the grip on these looks a lot better - think I'll be trying a set on pay day Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I'd agree with that, only downside is that Neil makes the darts look better with his scores lol

Great review Darren as always. Nice looking darts. Elkadart makes too many short darts

Cheers Shawn, not sure why, may be it is the most common length?
