Some folks wonder what the email links in profiles mean. They're not an email address - right?
The link is designed to protect your address from malicious - often automated routines - which scour the Internet to harvest that kind of information But when you use it here, the system will lookup your address and send the email. Sort of like the old switchboards.
You can turn this off and on in the User CP - Edit Options. Mine is usually off, but turned on for this screenshot:
