Why did I bother buying these darts? - Category
In the "Why Did I Bother?" Category:
Soft tip, weighing in at around 18 gm (Match weighted? Do not make me laugh!)
First is the "guaranteed to never have been thrown by him": Simon Whitlock darts; followed by the equally uninspiring Andy Fordham (who?) darts.
I replaced the supplied soft tips with Hardlips as they vibrate like the arrow in the original Robin Hood! Quite nice to watch.
These will be consigned to holding a place for real darts in my case. Cost about 14 pound each so I guess not really that cheap, I should have made another choice. Oh well, I now have a few of those.
The Designa is a better dart in my less than humble opinion.
And I waited for these? Oh well. They will make a door prize and make a beginner happy. They do actually throw and land quite nicely.

EDIT: Ok they are growing on me, they are not so bad after all. Plus I would have to admit I made a mistake. They can stay.

I'm thinking you're either young or fairly new to darts if you don't know who Andy "The Viking" Fordham is. Andy was a force to be reckoned with in the PDC at one time. He had some serious health issues a few years ago and had to take a break to lose a ton of weight and clean up his lifestyle. The man loved his pints------a lot.

As for the darts not matching weight, that is nothing new for darts and especially ones that cost so little. Those things are mass produced so there are going to be slight weight variations.

As for the guarantee that Simon Whitlock didn't throw the darts you bought, it's just their clever way to issue a disclaimer I would imagine. Either that, or their sense of humor.

Hmm. the comment re SW not throwing the darts - that was mine.
As for being young, well that was once, not any more. I took a break from darts for some reason for 27 years. Just started again, had no interest in the pro leagues at all.
My Targets, the expensive ones anyway, are very well match weighted.

Yeah Andy Fordham is a former BDO world champion and Winmau World Master. His health has probably been his biggest enemy in going on to do damage in the PDC, so he lost a ton of weight - which I believe he has put a lot back on - and now he’s attempting a comeback in the BDO. He’ll actually be playing on TV for the first time in quite a while at the BDO World Trophy which starts next Thursday (untelevised qualifiers are on the Tuesday and Wednesday).

My entry are my 21g Lowes in Machina finish.
I've had Lowes style copies and love them.
Bought the above as 'clearance' darts thinking they couldn't be all that bad....they were after all 'real' Lowes.

But alas. Horrible. Machina is much better than Crapina, so I can see why Unicorn chose the name. Worst finish on a dart I have ever had the displeasure of using.

Worst darts I've ever thrown were the Phase5's... they're a great, well made dart, but I was dammed if I could throw them.

I had been playing for years using a thin straight barreled dart and the Phase5's just didn't suit me at all... In fact, I was lucky if I could get them to stick in the board!
Had around 6 or 7 fall out in the space of a couple of mins.

Just didn't suit me at all.

Latinum coated darts, had some Manleys and they just chipped and flaked, horrible coating.

James Wade darts, no idea why but could not get them to fly right for me.

Unicorn Dum Dums, another dart that was not for me.

Never liked the Phase 5 either, but may have been the weight, also I am going to give them another try as I got some Rossos recently. The first set I bought was Feb 2009, just a few months before I broke my shoulder, so things may have changed since.

Target Pure, the stumpy points are what ruin the dart for me, dont like them at all.

RD Robert Thorntons the second version, just feel too slippy to me, did not like them.

I'm sure there is more but will have to wait Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I agree re price but these darts just don't feel nice to handle. Might be the coating but they feel cheap. Not really written them off as they look good in the case. I have a number of soft tips, mostly Target. These are not the worst by any means. They fall in the shape and grip I like. I was just disappointed having waited so long for them to arrive.

The worst darts I ever had were a set of Unicorn Latinums - I can't remember what barrel it was but I chucked them for about 5 minutes, packaged them up and mailed them back for an exchange.

Thanks for the PMs offering to take my Fordham and Whitlock darts off my hands. I'll keep them for now. Honestly, and I know there is no price/quality comparison, after throwing the Trimurti Brahmas these might never see the light of day again.
I don't like the Target Sport 90 either and I mostly really like the Target products.

Here's what I did with Phase 5. I changed the point to 50mm (extra long), used L-style Medium Shafts and Amazon Standard flights. Now try this set-up combination.
