My Throw, Dart placement
I've done two videos, 1 showing my action, which really alarmed me just how far back my arm goes. The other is my dart placement/grouping in the board. I have a few that drop, due to my shoulder dropping. Some poor throws, but I do finish with a 140, 100 Guests cannot see images in the messages. I'm willing to try any ideas as I want to develop a clean throw, I can repeat time after time.

My grip is currently 2 finger/thumb as I just couldn't control/aim 1 finger/thumb, but I still do practice it regulary, to see if I can find the comfort area for me.

Everybody's throw is different . Your grouping is not bad . This is a cruel game and the only thing that helps you improve is practice , and even then you will have days that you will think why do I bother. But every now and then it comes together and the feeling is fantastic. Comfort and practice. Oh and one other thing. Don't over think every dart just do what comes natural and things will start to click. Enjoy and I'm sorry to repeat myself practice practice practice

I try to practice at least half hour a day, but ideally 1-2 hours. I keep getting phases where I'll score big, then phases when I think the treble 20 is an illusion. Even tried putting white tape on my treble 20 to try and improve my concentration/focus. I do over think some throws, need to get out of that habit. Also I need to get in the habit of stepping away when things aren't going right, I tend to keep throwing and it gets worse. I also try to force darts in instead of checking down, but that's what my practice room is for.

Nice to know I'm not the only one throwing this way, didn't realise just how far my arm comes back till I started watching it back.

Redone it Grip/Gumbo. Please try again.

I like the way the top half of your arm stays still, throwing from the elbow.

Only suggestion I would make is that you reach for the next dart pretty quickly. Your last dart has a lovely follow through. See if you can replicate that on your 1st and 2nd darts.

Video works fine for me. Yeah compared to me your arm does go back far, but i throw different from you. My hand comes in front of my face and then I push off from there. But as everyone knows, we all throw our own way. Like its been said, just keep practicing and don't over think it.
Nice set up by the way!

Thanks for the advice Jimbo, I'll try to get all 3 the same. It used to be the other way round, I was dropping my arm too quick after my 3rd dart but Grip (btw thanks Grip) told me to keep it up. I'll have to try and forget there is darts in my other hand and treat every throw as though its the last.

Missus watching NCIS lol. I really like this setup, gives me a nice balance and very few of my darts wobble since changing to it. Amazing really just how much your setup affects the darts. With the original setup I couldn't throw them, they were landing in all angles. My stems I keep damaging, gone through 4 already from Robin Hooding them, but I bought 7 sets of stems and flights so I'm good for a bit Guests cannot see images in the messages. I got the videos to work. Everyone has a different style throwing. I have to say though I tried pulling the dart past my face/eyes and I did not like it at all. I like seeing the dart from pull back till it hits the board. It is going to take time to get more consitent. Don't over think what you are doing is the only advice I can give.

First of all I will repeat what we all hold to be true, One man cannot tell another how to throw darts, It is up to the individual to feel comfortable and natural during their throw, that will give the best results.

But!!!! there is one rule everyone should abide by if you are going to take it to the next level, that rule is, CUT OUT ALL UNNECESSARY MOVEMENT.

Nylon you are deffo a rhythm thrower, and have that behind your ear style, people who throw like this tend to throw hard and with very little arch. They also tend to stand very square to the board as opposed to more sideways, which causes the elbow to swing out in the backswing, hard to tell from that angle but I do believe yours does.

Because of your love of rhythm, what Jimbo stated holds true, you do indeed reach for your second and third dart quickly, a split second pause in between throws will help this, it doesn't have to be long, just a split second.

The main thing that I see, and according to rule number one is the following.

We all have a point were we "SET" ourselves for the throw, and a point at the end of the backswing, we are looking to shorten these two points as much as possible so we have less of a window for mistakes or going off track.

This is the point were you "SET UP FOR THE THROW"

And this is the point of you backswing.

I would like to se you "SETTING UP FOR THE THROW" about here.

Note that in the above pic your elbow seems to have swung out, Setting up for your throw at this point may stop this. Also your dart is pointing to the ground at this point, therefore there is some wrist movement somewhere to correct this from here to the release point, this is another unnecessary movement that can cause a mistake.

Your elbow from your last point of the backswing to your point of release does indeed stay in the same place, but if you look at the pics it moves (raises) from your setup to you last point of the backswing, which is another movement you can avoid by setting yourself at the target in the position I mentioned before.

Anyhow give it a go and if it doesn't feel natural then read the first paragraph of my post. lol

Good luck Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Maybe I should just poke my eyes out, that'll fix everything lol

p.s. I wouldn't try to stop yourself from drawing back you dart so far, I would concentrate more on "SETTING" yourself in the above mentioned position. Work only on one thing at a time and do not try and change everything at once. Even if you set yourself with the dart pointing to the ground is ok, just work on that set point first. By doing so you have effectively cut your drawback in half and stopped your elbow from swinging upward and outwards. All necessary movements

If you are going to change anything for the better remember it may be tricky at first and you will think it's not working and start feeling negative about it, but it will come to pass as muscle memory kicks in and it starts feeling smooth and natural. I know this as I have completely changed all of my technique in the past year and a half. Bit by bit. So if there is a part of your technique you feel you should change, keep at it, it will come.

G - great analysis mate +1 on its way to u for that.

Had a bit of a practice trying to shorten my arm to what you suggested. My darts are shooting high, felt like I lost bit of control but I don't mind that as it's expected. As JayKay says its all about muscle memory so I need to adapt. The one thing I noticed is my follow through has shortened, my speed/fluidity has dropped and I've started floating my darts. God knows how this happened. I will keep practicing and trying to follow through. I'm not worried about the trebles, my aim is for a smoother throw & a straight one.

JayKay - good to know you've been through this phase, I know this change is for the better, I want to keep improving myself. Although I get a lot of fun out darts anyway, I'm my own worst critic, which drives me to keep bettering myself.

Stop all this thinking and analyzing. All you are doing is putting distractions in the way of developing and perfecting how you do it!'

Just throw the damned thing with a nice long stroke and with all your concentration on the hole you're going to stick the dart in.
