2023 Premier League
No idea how many people have been watching this, but the first games for next week are the same match ups as was played last night - ie

Dimitri Van den Bergh v Nathan Aspinall
Jonny Clayton v Gerwyn Price
Peter Wright v Michael van Gerwen
Chris Dobey v Michael Smith

The draw order is slightly different though so the semi finals will be different match ups.

The Twitter response to the Pdc fixture release is all negative, fair to say that this format hasn’t gone down too well

But the £ will decide when it comes to ticket sales / tv ratings

The Pdc has changed the premier league over the years and not everything will come off but once you’ve committed you’ve got to finish it

In its defence its not terrible to watch but something just seems a bit missing

I don't think the format will affect ticket sales as most of the tickets are sold before the PDC even announce the format or who is in the thing.

Not sure if the Sky viewing figures will affect it though. From what I've seen mentioned on twitter they have gone right down - apparently 190,000 watched week 1 and that went down to 97,000 for week 2, then another reduction for week 3 down to 94,000.

Whatever happens ion the future the PDC will just do whatever they want to do anyway.

Last night's winner was Gezzy Price - and apparently Chris Dobey got an incredible reception on home soil as well

When Price won his semi-final match I said he'd have to really up his game to beat MVG in the finals or he'd get skull-dragged.

Well, he certainly found another gear in the finals completely dominating Van Gerwen for the lopsided win.

It’s all a bit too friendly this year. It may just be the kind of characters / age range involved this time but too much laughing and friendly fist bumping.

He’s just took potentially £10’000 out your pocket but never mind you’ll be back next week to try again  Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Personally I can do without personal animus. I watch to see good darts, not petty feuds. I'm not sure what you mean by age range; this season it's 28 (Dimitri Van Den Bergh) to 53 (Peter Wright).

It would appear that Clayton won last night - and guess they forgot to get a trophy made up so went to the local charity shop and picked up some piece of tat and painted Premier on it instead - I think this must be the worst looking trophy the PDC have ever handed out!!!

It’ll sit nicely along with the green jacket he got for winning a euro tour  Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Damn, that looks like a kids "Participation Trophy" that was bought in bulk from the local discount store. Clayton is actually biting his tongue to keep from laughing out loud..................

I thought it looked like it should have a bowl of sweeties on top the way they do in supermarkets instead of giving valueless coins in your change

I showed the pic to my wife as I thought she would get a laugh out of it...but first thing she said was "that's pretty cool and different...it's the Berlin bear"

So I guess there are a rare few out there that appreciate it lol

The 94,000 viewers was for the show on 2nd March - no idea about the next couple of weeks, but for 23rd March the viewing figures were down to 62,000, although they may have been affected by England playing Italy in the Euro Championship footie that night.

I think the previous format makes everything a bit more ruthless. You get one match on the night to make the most of it.

As I posted earlier in the thread I can understand the appeal for the spectators who actually go there (well the ones that go for the darts anyway) as it is a mini competition with someone winning at the end of the night, whereas for the tv viewers you are pretty much watching the same matches for 16 weeks.

Personally if I was watching it I would prefer a larger field playing just the one game a night, and maybe have a local player as a contender each night as well as I actually watched quite a few of those weeks when they were on.
