Huge leap up the table for Hyogo's Koto Imai, well not huge but 9th sounds better than 11th and she has a nice39 point gap over 10th places Cosmodart's Yuko Hino and Koto-pro can see team mate, well fellow Cuesoul chuckster, 8th placed Sayaka Sasaki just 56 points ahead.
Miyu Miyawaki and Shizuka Kondo have swapped who is "Best Trinidad Lady" back in 5th and 6th place. Up in 4th Unicorn's Kasumi Sato is relentlessly closing that gap to the podium places now only 34 point behind, with only 3 rounds left will she run out of time?
Up at the pointy end DMC's Natsumi Iwata sashayed into 2nd spot with her quarterfinal performance in Yokohama last time out. Yukie is now down to 3rd place with the third evolution of her TIGA Emprechu arrows Coincidence? Yes, but if not then it is an extreme way to promote the third version by dropping to third place...

☆☆☆ 2022 Stage 16 Hiroshima 広島 ☆☆☆

Second event of 2023 is stage 16 of the 2022 season held in Hiroshima's NTT Credit Hall in the City of Hiroshima in the prefecture of Hiroshima-ken (広島) Just down the road and a cheeky swim through the moat of Carp Castle on the 21st of January 2023.

Heavy viewing restrictions are in place to control the virus of unknown origin from flaring up - so laser thermometers and wristbands to keep the players and essential staff inside the venue healthy. Last week had Cuesoul's Koto Imai (今井 琴) take a well deserved victory - can she win again? So far she has won every single match she has played in 2023.

Top 40 run down (Inset your own Top of the Pops / Billboard Chart Show theme tune here.)

With a gap of 218 point and only 160 potential points left Target's Mikuru Suzuki takes the 2022 Japan Darts Ladies title. But Mikuru-pro has yet to win a stage in 2023... there is hope for the other ladies.
The battle for the podium places remains interesting with DMC's Natsumi Iwata being knocked out of the replacement round by Cosmo's Yoshiko Takano. Meanwhile TIGA's Yukie Sakaguchi battled through the round robins only to meet the brick wall of Unicorn player, Kasumi Sato who gave her a nice goose egg and sent the TIGA player off to Kōriyama to join Natsumi-pro in the Round Robins as both failed to get all the way to the safe haven of the Quarterfinals.
Kasumi Sato did manage to get to the Quarterfinals so knows she starts in the last 16 replacement round up north in the Fukushima stage. One win at the Big Palette and Kasumi will be in the replacement round for the last stage in Yokohama and already be penciled in for a large portion of the 150% boosted points.
At the pointy end of the fourway battle for 5th place; Trinidad's Miyu Miyawaki may feel nervous now the long dangerous fingernails of the Sayaka Sasaki are directly behind her just 24 points behind. Miyu-pro was the toughest opponent for Sayaka Sasaki in Hiroshima but thankfully for both they can't draw each other in the replacement round next time out. DMC's Maiko Koyoma and Trinidad's Shizuka Kondo are tied on points and both will have to fight through the Round Robins before they can think of gaining any places.
The three way battle for 10th place is only 4 points apart, with Target's Cathy Leung beating Cosmo's Yuko Hino in a suddden death leg only to be smushed out in the replacement round by Target's Mikuru who also dealt with Zephyr's Kasumi Chiba in the semifinals - Fast throwing Kasumi Chiba is in 11th place but starts from the last 16 and knows her next game is pivotal to how easy her run to the end of the season will be.
TIGA's Yuriko Yamaguchi had a few close calls in Hiroshima but glided her way into the semi finals before she wipeout against eventual the stage winner, Sayaka Sasaki. Yuriko-pro has an outside chance to pop-up into 10th place should the trio above her flounder in the final two rounds.
Cosmo's Yoshiko Takano also has a chance to pull off a last gasp charge up the rankings. Already secure with least 20 points if she goes to Kōriyama, one win there will also secure at least 30 more points in the season finale and maybe burst up into the top 20.

☆☆☆ 2022 Stage 17 Fukushima 福島 ☆☆☆

The Big Palette is in the core city of Kōriyama located inland of the Pacific coast in the prefecture of Fukushima about 40 miles west of the ill fated Daiichi Nuclear Fission Power Plant. (Oddly the Big Palette is a disaster evacuation centre... the more you know eh...)
Of course for me Kōriyama is the birthplace of the Japanese actor Toshiyuki Nishida who was the actor for the exiled Marshall of Heaven, Zhu Bajie, sentenced to wander the earth as Pigsy from Saiyuki - MONKEY! which is the best TV ever made funded by Japan and filmed in Inner Mongolia.
Pigsy was armed with his legendart nine toothed rake - so many of the players will be trying to leave Nine Marks on the board in the cricket. Just like Pigsy does to poor Monkey here...

The city has pretty excellent transport links being on the main transport routes north and south for centuries so no Airport here. If you want to get here by air you'll need to blag a lift from a flying cloud...

Oh you can't? Well I forsee the bullet train or the expressway is in the player's future transportation plan!

But what was The Mikuru up to? Well she had a cheeky go in the Men's event. What a gal!

242 Men and a Mikuru fought it out in their Round robins....

Motoki Yuhi (由肥 元希) 2-1
Hiroki Nishimura (西村 央規) 2-0
Tomoki Takano( 高野 智樹) 2-0
Naoki Takahashi (髙橋 尚輝) 2-0
four games and 4 wins. This let Mikuru leave the round robins ranked in 13th place - with a 501 average of 120.54 and a cricket average of 5.40 ...

-- The Division 2 knock out stages and Mikuru faced...
Koichi Ito (伊藤 誠一) 2-1
Shinji Umeda (梅田 伸二) 3-0
Atsushi Joko (上甲 篤史) 3-2
-- and on into the Division 1

Haruki Muramatsu (村松 治樹) 3-1
so now Mikuru is elegible to start in the next stage in Yokohama directly in the replacement round!

Akihiko Owaku (大和久 明彦) 2-3
Finally Mikuru's run came to an end to Akihiko Owaku-pro in a final sudden death leg. Akihiko advanced to the quarterfinals...

(Akihiko Owaku then)

... against the winner last time out in Hiroshima, Tomoya Goto (後藤 智弥) 3-2

* - should start next stage seeded into the last 16 replacement round of Division 1.

Top 40 run down
.
Sayaka Sasaki passed the winners baton back to Koto Imai as Cuesoul have had a hatrick of wins in 2023. Koto-pro was able to turn on the style whenever she needed to secure a winning leg and that was enough to keep her healthy charge to the top as she now holds an 88 point lead over 10th place but she has drastically closed the gap to the girls ahead - She has an outside chance to burst up into 6th place if the stars are aligned next week.
Natsumi Iwata was the last survivor of the Round Robins but fell to the eventual winner in the semifinals. And looks like Natsumi-pro will finish the season in second place.
Yukie Sakaguchi again just failed to advance into the meaty part of the points after a 2-1 defeat to Maiko Nokura in her very first knockout match, and despite currently being 3rd in the championship race. Yukie will need to be on top form to fight her way out of the round robins to stave off the challenge of the always strong and passionate Kasumi Sato, who was eliminated in the Quarterfinals by stage winner Koto Imai.
Another Kasumi was knocked out in the Quarterfinals, Kasumi Chiba, who is leading the tight four way battle for 10th place Cathy Leung dropping to the tail of this quartet after losing to Yuko Hino but Yuko-pro was pipped by Kasumi Sato in the replacement round. Both Cathy Leung and Yuko Hino have the challenge of the Round Robins and the Division 2 knock out stage just to get to the same level that Kasumi Chiba, and stage 17's finalist, Yuriko Yamaguchi have already secured - a seeded place in the final replacement round which has already penciled in 30 points for them due to the bonus points.
Beefed up points for the final round means that one solid days run of form can transform a players position with the winner getting 96 points - So for example Riyo Okumura could have a run take a win and blast from 27th up to 14th place - maybe? Yoshiko Takano is already in Yokohama's replacement round (Stage 18) so she will most certainly overhaul a few players ahead.

いよいよ今週末 JAPAN 2022 最終戦!
19th of February and the very final event of this tough season with stages constantly being rearranged and restrictions fluctuating as the SARS CoV-2 did the world tour. The Osanbashi Hall is the location at the end of the Osanbashi Pier which is thrusting out into Yokohama Bay and is the place for the players to make a final thrust forward and put the trials of this season behind them.

No Mikuru in the Ladies event. But who is this mysterious late entrant into the men's event? Is it the Japan 2022 champion Mikuru Suzuki? (Yorkie Chocolate Bar in her top pocket and that stick-on moustache from a Christmas cracker!) Mikuru is not in the round robins on Saturday as she opened a tricky jar of pickles... not really, Mikuru-pro snagged a very well earned top 16 finish in Koriyama against the Chaps last week and so is seeded in the replacement rounds (Last 32 knockout stage) this Sunday.

Tough day for Mikuru as she lost out in her first match with a 3-1 defeat to Tetsuya Fujiwara (藤原 徹也). Tough being a Pioneer, just ask the Donner party.
But who won in the Men's Event in Yokohama? The same chap who lost to Mikuru at this stage last week - Haruki Muramatsu (村松 治樹). Haruki-pro had to fight it our from the round robins and the knockout stages to get the win, all because of what Mikuru did last week.

And that wraps up this season - Ryk will do the tables after a nap.

That is the season - Rie Hoshino ended in 123rd place - pretty good considering how many events she was absent from.

Mikuru Suzuki takes the title with championship winning form for the majority of the season - 8 wins
Natsumi Iwata bounced up into 2nd place with a solid run but only a single win (Stage 3)
Yukie Sakaguchi was an early pace setter but a few wibbles and wobbles mid season but made th emost of 3 wins two of them being at exciting stages for bonus points (Stage 1,4,9)
Kasumi Sato had some tough draws and seemed to find herself on the wrong end of a hard game earlier in a stage than most. 4th is still very impressive - but that first win still eludes her. 5 finals though.
Shizuka Kondo took the final win of the season and bounced into the five spot with a perfect day when she was undefeated in the eleven games she played which was enough to finish the season on a high to charging up from 8th to 5th on the final day of the season.
Top five ladies each using five different makes of darts. (Target, DMC, TIGA, Unicorn and Trinidad)
6th places Maiko Koyama took the Stage 5 in Kyoto, and was a consistent force all season.
7th placed Trinidad Oche Toe-er (?) Miyu Miyawaki didn't reach a final but was constantly up in the results only failing to reach the replacement round twice all season. 8th place Sayaka Sasaki took a win in Hiroshima beating Mikuru in the final, but Sayaka actually earned more points for finishing in second place behind Yukie in Fukuoka - points systems eh?
9th place had double stage winner Koto Imai, who had a hard charging end to the season with 246 points in the last 6 stages.
Kasumi Chiba only made it to one semi final and never made it to the final but was solid all season letting the Zepher thrower end the season 10th overall.
Nami Iwasaki had a moment of clarity in Hiroshima's Stage 13 when she took a tremendously surprising win showcasing her obvious skills that she has never truly been able to bring out before.

I think next season will return in April at the Sun Messe in Takamatsu - Kagawa... Kagawa?  - Yes on the Island of Shikoku!  Home of the Mikuru! Rounds two and three are pencilled in at the Osanbashi Hall on Yokohama Bay and the Toki Messe in Niigata on the banks of the mighty Shinano River.

Looks like there will be a new winner on the Japan Ladies tour for 2023 - Mikuru will apparently no longer play the womens events and will be on the main (mens) Japan Tour instead
