Another spin-off from the darts craze of the late 1930s when the posh folk took to darts in a big way (see my earlier reply under 'History of Darts' re. images loaded by getagrip). The major thing about the upper classes taking up the game (albeit only for a couple of years) was that author Rupert Croft-Cooke wrote the first book entirely devoted to darts. It was cunningly entitled DARTS and was published in December 1936 by London publisher Geoffrey Bles priced 2s 6d. That's 13p in the 'new money'.

Kind of typical that it would be an upper class craze as opposed to the working class who played it in the pubs, guess times were different then and maybe they thought it was something to be seen to be interested in.
