Yes, to accelerate a lighter dart to the same velocity of a heavier dart would require less force but to have them hit the same spot, the velocity of the lighter dart needs to greater.  Once the dart is released, the momentum of the dart will determine where it lands on the board.

I let other players try my 22g total weight, softip players used to throw 18g, most of them have trouble throwing my heavy darts. Heavy darts require more strength and force! Some even try to convince me to throw light weights, LOL.

I went from 18s to 20s and then back to 18s. I swear even the 2g difference would make my arm sore and I felt like I had to throw harder. My scores are a lot better since moving back to the 18s.
