Darts - People who influenced your darts
Years ago I met a older fella (yes older then me) and met at the VFW to play some soft-tip. Played three legs which I losed all three. Hmm I said how about a game of most consecutive bulls eyes. Sam (thats his name) just grin and said go ahead . Well I hit 9 in a row and felt damn good about that.
Sam reeled off 21 straight. I said lets do this again bub. I hit 7 straight before missing, Sam hit 27 bulls in a row. An exhibition of bull shooting that I have never seen before or since. Anyway we became best friends and so did our wives. We went on vacations together and of course played darts all the time. A few years later Sam developed a horrible case of dartitis and never did recover unfortunately. One of the best pure shooters I ever saw and a great friend. Sam passed away about three years ago but I think of my friend often.

Nice one Pops!

He sounds like he was very skilled.

No one influenced me really I just got into again through watching on TV, my late brother always watched the darts though and it was probably through him that I first seen it as a kid.

I'd be remiss to not say my friend Danny that initiated me in the game of darts. He is not a great thrower, but he got me started playing and we played on the same league team for a few years before he moved out of state. My game progressed, his remained mediocre at best, but he had fun doing it.

As far as really showing how darts can be played, I'd have to say watching touring pros at the larger money tournaments I went to. The biggest name player I ever went against was a guy named Kevin Spiolick (?) who at the time was world ranked and had beaten a young Phil Taylor. He wound up in New Orleans playing in a pro tour tournament and we played 501 best of 3. Yeah, he beat me 2-0 to end my hopes, but the consistency he showed was amazing and even though I lost, it opened my eyes to how one has to throw to be near the top of the game.

Growing up my mum played darts in a league and also won the Dundee woman's singles championship. we always had a board in the house and I played sometimes as a kid. never serious though. I was too into football. I completely stopped as a teen. I started playing again about a year ago but I have watched darts on telly for many years. I guess it was my mother that got me into darts many moon's ago.

I would have to say a man by the name of Barry Atkinson was a big influence on me. He was an Australian rep in his day and also an olympic archer.

When I met him, he was just playing for fun with his mates and was throwing close to a 30 ave per dart!

He was always willing to give advice if you asked him. he was also a great bloke.

He owned the company that made Alana dart boards here in Adelaide. They were fantastic boards.

Probably what got me into darts was MvG in the 2013 Semi-final when he almost hit two 9-darters in a row. Until around 2016 I didn't really do much besides some 'boring' soft-tip darts with a board that didn't work really good and almost all my darts fell out of the board, but after that I wanted to learn more about the sport and I soon realised that I was crazy about it. So you could say that MvG was the person that got me playing darts right now. But now I've got to learn more about the sport MvG is one of the darters I dislike the most. Oh, and you guys of course also really help me staying interested into playing darts Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.
