Okay I currently play in a singles league in Germany with soft tips and the maximum weight is 20g. I have a set of 20g soft tip darts that i use at home on my HARD board as i don't have an electronic board. I prefer heavier darts, About 23/24g but i don't play steel tip darts often unless i go back to Scotland or have guests here in Germany and we play on my Board. Could/should I have a heavier set of steel tips and my lighter set of soft tips or should I keep both the same weight??
Help with steel tip, soft weights

Its an interesting question, I think the guys who play both are best to answer this but as soft tip is over a longer length oche then maybe you should throw from the same length with the same weight when playing on a steel tip unless its for a proper match, but even then there is nothing to stop you from throwing that little bit longer on steel tip matches.
The thing is I feel more comfortable with the heavier weight and feel I throw better. I play against better players back in Dundee so i want to keep on top of that but at the same time I don't want to halt my progress or ruin my consistency. If playing with two different weights wont make much of difference then it's okay but if it does then I have a bit of a dilemma...
Sounds like a problem, if the soft tip machines let you use a heavier dart then that would be better but I guess your limited with that.
Maybe you can choose havyer "over 20g" softtip barrel in shot! or puma darts.
If you plan on playing on Dartslive you will be safe to use a heavier dart.
•Players are required to use darts that are made with parts generally recognized as tips, barrels, shafts and flights. Each part has to be removable and each dart must not exceed 30cm in length. •The weight per dart must be less than 25g in total. •Tips must be made of plastic. •When throwing darts, the front foot must stay behind the front edge of the throw line •During the match, players are required to insert their DARTSLIVE CARDs into the dart machine. Hope this helps.
Thanks but they don't use darts live over here. These boards only allow up to 20g. I think I will get the heavier set and practice with them and before I have a league game/tournament I will practice with my soft tip. I think thats maybe the solution. Was hoping someone was in the same situation and had a solution.
I play both soft and steel, but for me it isnt a drama as I throw 15g darts.
I know a few peeps that have a set for soft tip and a heavier set for steel tip. What you need to do is work out which version of the game you play the most and go with the darts to suit that. Try and get the same dart in steel and soft tip if you can even if they are different weights. That way when you swap between the 2, it is only weight that you need to get used to, not a totally different dart. I'm going to look into it see if I can get 24g and 20g in the same dart. Time for some online shopping! |
