Dartboard Fix
Lightbulb
Well here it is. What you all been waiting for, well for those of us who are too tight to get a new board anyway, I found a way to fix my dartboard about eight months back as I was sick of hammering in the spider and putting it back together (its one of those "lets put a join in the spider" type boards, the bull ring fell out ages ago and thats held up forever, so it is tried and true. It takes a lot of patience (just lost half my audience) but works. You will never have to hammer it into shape again.

Its a bit messy at the back of the board, and for those who have U holders, you will have to put a recess in the disk to accommodate the nails, you'll see what i mean. (my board sits on mounts and isn't hung from the back).

Its a system of using VERY THIN HIGH TENSILE single strand fishing wire that goes right through the board and is pinned at the back, similar to staples on the old boards (just lost some more audience), Before you go, read on. The wire that I use is very thin and when put in the right place works really well. I got one bounce out in over eight months of use and only because I put the wire (staple if you will) in the wrong spot (it was too close to a corner).
Visually you don't even see them from the ochey and are even hard to find when pulling darts unless you are looking for them. Got your attention now?

The spider sorta locks itself in and if you put the fixings in the right spot you dont need that many. My spider was falling out, and if it wasnt for the fact that it had a big "scar" of joins in it I would have needed a lot less. I put them on the inside wire of every second double (only the green ones), and four around the outside bull ring, plus the two I already had in the bull ring itself, I thought there was no way that the triple section wasnt going to come out but this was enough to not only keep it in their but I dont think it has even moved. I think if you catch it early enough you would need a total of 13 fixings.

Ok so here we go. I cant stress enough that this fishing wire likes to snap when over twisted, to fix this I used a thin nail, removed it and replaced it with a thicker one (youll see what I mean later). It may take a few snappings and swearings untill you get the hang of the twist.

My board is a Puma bandshit so anyone with a Bulls or Alien board would have the same lazy, half assed made in china spider. As I said above on the inside ring of the double (thats the load bearing ring) you put the fixings only on the green doubles 10mm from a corner and follow that pattern. I only chose green cuz double top is my peg, if ya like 32 peg then red might be the go (splitting hairs now).
Choose three low numbers evenly spaced around the outside bull ring but make sure when you put the fixings in keep them as far away from a corner as possible, else you may get a bounce out every eight months.

I have put together some step by step pics that I think even the worst chalker can workout. (painstakingly tedious)

Below is a pic of the ugly back, and although I havent got a U HOLDER I am sure that with some good trimming of the nails and some grinding of the U HOLDER you should be able to get it to work.

There are no pins around the triple ring and I fixed this board eight month's ago and thats as far as the spider has come out.

UPDATE
A bit of an update on how I tidied up the bull segment so you can hang the board and dont get caught on the wire fixings.

It consists of some flat sheet metal, you drill all five holes and line up the center one and screw in your hanging screw, then get some short screws and screw the corners down hard.

=============================================================================================================

The sheet metal just sorta bends around all the wires but fixes to the board nice and hard. Hang the board and adjust your screw so it fits tight in the u clip but is still free enough to pull off and on.

Now we have to get the board stable with three rubber stoppers that are the right length. I purchased some small chair tips from the hardware and screwed three of them into the back of the board, The ones I got had a round end on them but this didnt matter, I also put a very small washer under the screw head so it didnt pull through the top of the rubber chair stop.
Measure how much gap you have between the back of the board and the backboard (or wall), temporary packers will help with this.
Get one of your rubber stoppers and cut it 2mm longer than the measurement you found earlier, This is to allow for any crush you have with the screw and giving it a nice tight fit to the backboard.
To cut them I put a pencil in them and rolled a knife around them at the cutting point.
Bellow are the chair tips im talking about, and can be seen in the picture two images above

I haven't got many good things to say about my Puma Bandit board apart from the fact that the colour doesn't fade so they would look great when you throw them in the bin if ya didnt have this fix.

Good luck to all you Nut Bagz.

I +1 you. Great fix for a board especially the bull rings.

Brilliant mate - take a plus one from me for sure.

Simply brilliant. And I mean really brilliant, not the overused-until-it-has-no-meaning British kind of brilliant.Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Not sure sure about the "bum fingering" part, though. It looks to me like you could do this without anyone's bum getting fingered.
26's so far this year: I've already lost count. :-)

hehehe I was giggling like a school girl when I was writing that, the term bum fingering comes into play because when something fits really snug then it "fits like a finger in the bum".

Here in the US the term could also conceivably be used to mean "pointing out the perpetrator in a police lineup of homeless gents."

Thats just AWESOME G man, a very well learned fix that you have explained perfectly with great pics!

I think that is probably one of the best How To's I have seen! Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

The Bull ring fix looks perfect too.

I like how you worked out the use for the galvanised nail too, nice one Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I am going to +3 you for that, think we should make a special forum award badge too.

You could always put a thin sheet of hardboard or ply on the back if the nails and wire were an issue?

Pretty sure Infiniti Mike would -3 you if he could, as he gazes upon his giant stack of Gladiator 2's. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

That stack would be even taller if he hadn't already sold one to me, which currently resides under the couch, still cocooned in bubble wrap.

Thanx Darren, I thought of the board on the back but scrapped it as I would have had to move my ochey, at the moment the nails dont protrude past the the rubber bumpers that come supplied with the boards. but if ya just got a line it wouldn't be a big deal.

I was going to do a video tutorial but I thought it would take too long. Boy was I wrong, that took forever lol

Ill consider this wiring as prevention for my new boards(unless its a gladiator).
