Hi guys
I know im only 10 wks in but im struggling with darts 7-8-9 or to make it simpler every 3 sets of throws. I can get off to a great start (for me) getting 60s-100s & then ill get a set of throws where itll be anywhere from 2-26. Its hurting my game as its allowing the opponent in. Just cant seem to shake it.
The other day my scores went
61-85-11-100-17-80-4-98-out (5-d20)
Take out the 11, 17 and 4 and thats a great average of 84.5 exc the out.

Thats just normal really, your still early in your darts journey, as long as you try to do everything the same each throw eventually it will improve with practice.

The stray darts will become less regular with practice, as wiil a bad set of darts and too the amount of darts thrown in a game.
IN THAT ORDER

Becoming a better dart player is just the same as "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?" Answer: Practice, Practice, Practice.
It will come, and if you are lucky, it will stay. But the dart Gods can sometimes be very fickled and what they give, they take away. You WILL at sometime or another go into a slump if you play long enough. We all do, but let it be known that when you come out that slump, you are generally a better player for it.
Just hope you never get a case of the dreaded "Dartitis". That will wreck your head along with your game.

Dont let yourself focus more on that 3rd throw than any other throw, otherwise it will become a mental barrier.
When you practice, devote say 10 minutes to heavy scoring. Just blast away at the 20's for say 8 walks. Do this every session and you will find that you will start getting more consistency with your scoring power.

Jimbo made a good point regarding you thinking about the 3rd throw. Each set of 3 you throw should be the 3 you are concentrating on, or more so each dart you throw should be individual. Consistency and practice is the key here but also if you throw a wild first dart in the middle of the 5 or 1 try moving down to the 19's as it re-focuses your thinking rather than just staying on the 20's and then following your 1st dart into the 5 or 1, as this happens a lot as we are trying to throw 3 the same. with 2 in the 5 or 1 you then over compensate and go too far the other way and hit the other small single. You will also have to understand that with only a short time playing you will have the odd poor shot as we all do it but it is a case of your next 3 darts are new darts and they can make the difference. I said it this morning on another thread you are only a 180 away from being in front and I do believe that. So with stragglers just step back and re focus on a different treble from the 20's then next throw back at it and i'm sure you will find this helps you to re focus and get your mind and hand back working in unison. This is a stab in the dark but might be worth considering that when you hit back to back 100's you probably subconsciously think this is going to be my best leg and then lose your concentration and focus anyway which wont help you to throw straight. This will be worse when you do back to back 180's trust me.
Also don't be worrying about averages just get the wins under your belt first as averages ruin your concentration and in turn cost you games as worrying tightens up your back, neck, shoulders and arms and then you start missing your targets.

BG is on the money again.
I can vouch 1st hand to the last piece he mentioned. I have done it many times. Start off big and then crumble as I start thinking how many darts this leg will be and what it would do for my average.
Darts is a simple game. Dont over think.

10 weeks and throwing like that? I know people who have been playing for years and are happy scoring between 41 and 60. Really good Darts. Practice practice practice. Focus focus focus!
