Footwork in basketball is extremely important. We spend hours teaching it. My last post about the oche got me thinking about foot placement. Depending on how my shoulder is feeling, I either stand straight on, bladed 45 degrees or 90 degrees. I usually get my best results at 45 degrees. How do you guys stand?
Foot placement

Like Phil Taylor side on - good enough for 16 time Champ good enough for me. I actually tried it and liked it so thats how I have been standing now last few years.
I stand the most comfortable position for me which is right foot forward at 45 degree and back foot about 18 inches behind and slightly to the left. I tried Taylors way but it hurt my knee.
I stand 90 degrees to the board. I just naturally do it so I figure why change something I do naturally.
I do the 45 degree front foot bsck foot to give a stable feeling and I set up so My line of site is directly in line with the bull. or slight to the right of center depending how my throw is going . Tried the 90 stance and it feels awkward
been comfortable at the oche is more important I believe, no point in standing in an awkward way if it causes aches and pains.
Over the 20 odd years that I have been playing, my front foot has been at most angles. Currently, I stand side on. It is working for me at the moment. I get some pain in my left knee, but I get that no matter what way I stand and my left leg is the back leg. Go figure.
since im right handed,
right leg parallel to the line (facing 9 o'clock) left leg back (facing 7 o'clock) comfortable for me and works
This is one of the things that has ruined me natural game, thinking where I put me foot.
Its normally at 11 o'clock (just off center to the left), however when I consciously think about it my game goes to pot - so I try not to think about it - me foot will go where me head decides it should go - naturally! I have found to my detriment that the more I think about things like foot placement, grip, release etc the more my game suffers - other night I had worst game of me life, embarrassing to say the least due to over thinking. From now on I let me head decide naturally, I just concentrate on me target and let nature do the rest. Guests cannot see images in the messages. in my case its more about what causes the least aches to my knees
lately i've been leaning more forward but i've also been drinking too much during the holidays. funny thing is when i'm close to falling over my shots are better more concentration i guess??
