Your pick; The Greatest World Final.
The greatest World Final to've been played out on the Oche.

I was sat watching some old Dart matches yester eve, and the previous one; in particular a certain World Final. It induced me to start musing what other folk think on the subject. So thought to me self, I'd create a poll.

I wanted to have a broad discussion, if you fancy it - so I've selected 12 previous World Finals that I think could stand up to scrutiny of choice. If one does feel for an other Final not on the list, by all means get verbose - though I reckon these 12 are the ones that hold up to discussion for the epithet of Greatest.

I've plumped for this magnificent match that was played out in a teeming wild fire of a Circus Tavern night back in '03.

Taylor back in this period was a beast... in the Worlds he was untouchable. Had won the last 8, was 44 matches unbeaten going into this Final. After he lost this Final it would be another 26 matches unbeaten and 3 more World titles before what went down in '07.

John Part back then, in the early naughties... was playing the best Darts of his career... though the last time he played Taylor in a world Final he got thumped 7 - 0, furthermore had also lost to Taylor in a Match-play final, and Two Grand-prix Finals.

Could the big Canadian Legend do it.... finally. What a Match this was. My pick for the Greatest World Final played out on the Oche.

Would be nice to hear some thoughts upon your selection also....

Cheers.

Went with Barney/Taylor 2007 as it just edges out Gregory/Taylor in 92.

Jocky v Lowe (82) and again v Bristow (89) are a couple of personal favorites too. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I went with Taylor-Painter. It didn't turn out the way I wanted, but holy hell, what an amazing match.

Aye, I some times get torn between the one I plumped for and the Barney's final of 2007... which was just magnific! He and Part the only Two players to beat Taylor in the World Championships in 13 years of competition..... and it demanded that a a Match-for-the-Ages was needed to do it both times.

Aye, an other Epic Final down to the Last Leg decider on the Bull. Was stomach churning to watch, Taylor being 4-1 down, like he was against Part the year before. Poor ol' Kevin, reckon he was hurting after that, especially as I remember it for Painter loosing his Bottle and throwing one of his worst Legs in the decider.

I went for that one too for a similar reason.  For me it is one of the greatest matches of all time anyway.  But it really kick started darts in the modern era with Barney switching from the BDO it was like the two big heavyweight boxers meeting in a title decider for the first time.

I'd give a nod too to the Deller/Bristow final too.
Currently throwing 20g Wades badly at an Eclipse Pro

This is a very moot point.... thinking about it, yes indeed. Was a match that pushed the Sport over the cusp and into the next stage of it's journey. Around this time too MvG as a young lad moved over to the PDC circuit, Wade and Lewis were starting to make their mark, Anderson arrived in what '08 or '09.... a shift in the paradigm for sure.

For me  1982 Jocky v Lowe and  still  what I've seen of it Rees v Lowe, still great even today watching Rees take the first ever title

Big shout for Jocky's first Titile, fair enough.

Though the first one that Rees won, even though you could place an importance on the Match as being an epoch turning event in the development of the sport.... Wasn't for me that spectacular, and was only a short-ish format Match-play. When the same final was played out between the same two contestants the next year, and the match was long format set-play - Rees got smashed.

Deller vs Bristow for me 100%

Deller was a qualifier and beat world no 3 and 2 in the qtr and semi and then world no1 Bristow in the final. All 3 world champions. No one has ever and I dont think will ever do that again.

Taylor vs Barney is a close second. We must remember Barney was a 4x world champion at this point and world no2 though. Does in no way diminish the win but I think Dellers was the greatest!
