All personal preference, no real right or wrong IMO.

Gripping a dart.. I'd say, as many fingers as necessary, but as little as possible.

Personally, I mainly use my thumb to guide/stabilize the dart and clamp it steady with my index finger, imo the minimum you need (see Peter Wright, I really like his grip). Anything more should then come based on feeling, stability, arm or hand bias...

Does holding darts with meaty part of finger not fingertip could be the reason why I have problems releasing my darts ?

This is my conundrum to a tee. If I grip with my fingertips I get a much cleaner release and the dart flies like a bullet with no spin but my accuracy suffers. Just don't feel like I have enough control. My go to grip is the right top of my thumb and in the first joint of my index finger with my middle finger lightly touching the barrel and my ring finger lightly on the point. If it works it works and it is all personal preference.
Target Taylor 9 zero soft and steel tip

Boards: Gladiator 2 with Target Vision lighting system and Gran Board 2 soft tip with Target Corona lighting system.

I used to grip with 3 fingers, first and second on top of the dart and changed over to just thumb and first finger. I found fewer was better for me and now just rest the dart on the second finger

Last week I was looking through the show us your grip thread. Apparently it's possible to hold the dart any way you want to and get good results. How and where you hold the dart is going to have an effect on the release needed to get it going where you want. The key is to do the exact same thing every time. If it feels good and repeatable to you then practice practice practice til it works.
Shoot well and often
