What combination of rings and stems work best with flight punchers?
I bought a flight puncher recently, but the rings aren't tight enough at the height the holes are. Is there a combination of rings and stem that works best?

I use supergrips and titanium lock rings....Can't regiment the titanium rings enough. Really make a huge difference Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I agree with hamo. If you use rings get the titanium ones. I use ordinary springs and they work well too.

I also use Harrows Supergrip stems. I use the less durable rings that come with the stems and just replace them when they break. I feel the system works fairly well at keeping the whole thing together.

You have to try some and see for yourself there is no right answer, find what works for you

Springs adjust to the right size. Slot locks don't so it is hit or miss if they fit. I definitely recommend punching. The tangs of polycarbonite stems break very easily. I actually have a flight held in place by only one tang. The other three broken tangs are held in place by the slot spring. (You have to see it to believe it.) I definitely recommend Target ProGrip, Deflecta, and other Target knockoff stems. I can't keep a Flight on a Unicorn stem at all whether I use spring or lock.

I use RD nylon stems with spring rings and RD hardcore or Raw 100 flights, extremely durable and very rarely have a flight come out at all

When I do use punched flights I find that black springs are most effective. Also Target Ti Slot Rings work well with Unicorn stems/punched flights. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I use Supergrip stems and the rings supplied with them, on one setup I used Supergrip Fusion and black springs and I literally had to chew my flight off to pack my darts away the thing was not budging.

1. I believe both Target and Harrows punch machines are the same and I have seen the Bulls' one which was identical as well.

2. There is no difference in size between aluminium and titanium slot lock rings, however I have seen some titanium rings that were thicker and couldn't be used properly. I mean, one ring in a set was that thick. Apparently a production flaw. Let's say 2 out of 45 were wrong.

3. Some stems are thinner than the others. For example, I wouldn't recommend you Unicorn Gripper stems unless you prefer flights falling off regularly when hitting the other dart in a dartboard. I know that some players prefer that... definitelly not my case. If you buy these Unicorn stems you can save it by using slimmer rings. I have two sets of these rings but I have no idea where I got them from :-) They can't be used with normal stems as they're too tight.
The best stems I have ever used were the blaclk or white Target Pro Grips. The cheaper Designa durable nylons are almost the same. Target ones are a bit nicer though and I had a few Designas that weren't the straightest ones...
I have also bought these duo tone stems and they're a bit thicker so you might have a problem with pushing flights right into the bottom. I have solved it by using titanium pidgeon rings (size of classic springs). BTW, both these duo stems and Designa Edgeglow stems are tight enough if someone like the no-spring option...

Another vote for the Target slot lock rings and Pro Grips or SuperGrips. I use this system with punched 75 micron Unicorn flights and it works a treat.

In my experience the Ti slot lockers are a hair smaller in diameter than the alu ones. This makes it a little bit harder to get a fresh 100 micron flight onto, say, a Pro Grip but they still go on. However, the Ti rings are well nigh indestructible - I have been using them for the better part of 18 months and have only broken one. I would generally blow through a set of alu rings in a week or thereabouts.

Because the Ti rings are a little bit smaller you can use them on Unicorn Gripper 3 stems with fairly decent results. I use this exact setup on my Unicorn Taylor Phase 1s. Yes, the flights do pop off with this system but that's better than the flight actually falling off in flight which has happened before...  Guests cannot see images in the messages. I have a few different bags of springs and some are indeed smaller in diameter than others, I just try to match my stems accordingly. I prefer a cheap designa/no brand stem and most springs fit fine on them.

Have a poke about in the local hardware packs of springs you can more than likely find a pack with expansion springs of the size required & nip off 3 coils with side or end cutters cheaper than the specialist springs

I'll go along with the slot locķ rings on the pro grip stems except the rings are thin enough to have me looking for something  meatier. Enter bulls flight rings . But, they have a wider profile than the normal  slot rings and therefore require their own brand punch.

If I get a set/s of stems I haven't used before I push a flight (punched into the stem slot ) without a ring/spring, I put a small mark on the stem with a fine marker pen to line up with the punch slot in the flight remove flight & try assorted springs/rings on the stem till I find a size that is a tight fit at the mark Springs are more universal as if they get tight before the mark the will expand to let you push the flight fully home.
