What kills me about local gas prices is that La. is a very big gas producing state with several refineries within 50 miles of New Orleans and I've found gas in the mountains of Georgia cheaper than what we pay at the pump here.
Different vicinities tax at different rates, thus the discrepancy in pricing, but you'd think a state that produces and refines a lot of gasoline would have some of the better prices-----not so.
Been splitting my time lately between California and Illinois. California around $3.85/gal. Illinois is around $3.45.
26's so far this year: I've already lost count. :-)

Problem with California is they don't want to allow drilling off their coasts for oil exploration. The oil to produce the gas has to come from somewhere, but they have the NIMBY attitude (Not In My Back Yard) when it comes to offshore drilling. They are going to pay higher for gas having it shipped in, plus what the state places on gas in taxes also raises the prices. |
