Yes that was correct at the time of the draw.

As the winner of the World Masters has already qualified for Lakeside (all 4 WM semi finalists have qualified) then as Hendriks is the standby on the main table he will play David Cameron.  If the Masters winner hadn't already qualified then Hendriks would have got in on the regional table route in place of Roger Janssen to play Mark McGrath.

Given that it is now known the Masters winner has qualified for Lakeside the prelim round games are updated as follows:

Seigo Asada v Jeff Smith
Dennis Nilsson v Ryan Joyce
David Cameron v Jimmy Hendriks
Krystof Ratajski v Willem Mandigers
Craig Caldwell v Dennis Harbour
Tom Sawyer v Paul Hogan
Roger Janssen v Mark McGrath

Jeff Smith makes it to the finals last year and has a prelim match to start? Or is it because being a Canadian he does not play a full circuit and qualify via usual means? Just wunderin'

It's not because he is Canadian, it is because he is too far down the ranking table - I think it's the current champ and the next 25 in the rankings go through to the first round with the other 14 participants having to play the prelims.

Last year's four semifinalists (+ the two previous champions) are guaranteed spots in the tournament, but they don't get any special treatment regarding seeding or round placement. Only the top 24 of the ranking go directly into the first round by right, Smith was lower than that.
