These are the fairly recently new Brendon Dolan darts which are available in 23 and 25 grams, I'm reviewing the 23g version here, they are 90% tungsten and have a black Onyx coating and retail for £28.

CONTENTS AND PACKAGING:

The darts come in the normal Winmau plastic pack with the slide off lid and there is a checkout chart on the inlay card.  The barrels are supplied with a hard plastic case a point protector, medium nylon stems and Brendan Dolan Signature History Maker Kite shape flights:

The barrels are quite long and have a short scallop section at the front followed by a section of 3 triple ring grip bands with fairly deep grooves between then a smooth middle section with the rear starting to taper towards the end and a serious of 4 shallow cut rings and grooves.   Overall I would say the grip level is a medium.

BALANCE:

With nothing attached the barrel was front weighted:

With supplied setup  it moved very slightly front of centre:

MY GRIP WITH THESE DARTS:

I gripped these mostly on the ring section at the front:

CONCLUSION:

I like the contrast of the green on these darts against the black Onyx coating, I think it is quite effective and as for the coating itself I am a fan of this as I already have the Winmau Paul Nicholson darts and it has grown on me the more I played with those.  I was not sure about the length of these though as they are nearly 55mm long!  Also the scallop at the front I felt could have been a little wider for me personally or not there at all.  But of course they are designed for Brendan Dolan so no doubt perfect for him Guests cannot see images in the messages. Nevertheless they did not throw too badly for me although I think the supplied setup with the Kite flights coupled with the long barrels was not to my liking and I got a lot of fishtailing at times.  As you can see in the slo-mo video above when I tried standard flights the flight of the dart was almost perfect, but since playing with the for longer I found a short stem with standard flight worked best but overall not sure it fully suited me.  I do think its worth trying for some front grippers though especially if you like long barrels.

Trying the darts from the middle the flight was a little more stable and less fishtailing but its smooth there so if you need some grip then you have not got it.

From the rear was no good at all for me, I think the barrels length worked even more against me then.  I am sure a natural rear gripper would throw them well though but the grip around the rear is just a low medium to medium level but I think if your ring rested on the scallop you may or may not be happy with that, all depends how well you release it.

So kind of a curious one as I am sure a lot of front grippers will like them but for me I dont think I felt quite right with them even with my set up change.

As for others then I think its one of those darts that your going to have to try for yourself.  If you like long barrels then give them a go.

Quality wise there was nothing wrong with them, the coating is very nice and the machning is fine so nothing to complain about, the styling may not be to everyones taste but I quite like it.

A dart that may suit a particular type of grip then so one you will need to judge on for yourselves Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Nice review as always, think the grip pattern is a bit specialist and you would have to really have a grip perfect for this dart to get any real results from it.

Did you find yourself sticking your tongue out as you thrown them?

Pardon me if I'm remembering this wrong, but didn't Dolan already have Winmau darts out on the market before this new release? I could swear that a few months ago I took a look and moved on right away because they were just too long for me. But if I'm remembering right, how do his new darts differ from the old ones?

Agreed, the slow motion with different setups and trying different grips is really useful to see.

Thanks mate, yeah looks very specific in placement etc, but it is for a players grip so to be expected Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Thanks for a great review and the photos are fantastic!  I like a front scallop but your measurements and general feel that the scallop should be bigger or not there at all means that my wallet breathes a sigh of relief, for now...   Guests cannot see images in the messages.
