Winmau Announces Global TV Coverage for 2016 World Masters
The Winmau World Masters, the oldest major darts tournament globally, is to be broadcast to fans live across the world, Winmau announced today,
The event, which runs from December 2 – 4 2016, will see Friday’s to Sunday’s action aired LIVE and for FREE by Premier Sports HD in the UK (via the Sky platform) and eir Sports in Ireland. Premier Sports on the Virgin platform is unable to make the channel freeview, but viewers can watch on the Premier Sports Facebook page in HD.
Viewers across the rest of the world will receive LIVE and FREE coverage via Winmau's industry-leading streaming channel Winmau TV.
There will be over 20 hours of action broadcast from Friday to Sunday, including expert commentary from legend John Gwynne.
“The list of Winmau World Masters reads like a who’s who of the greatest players who have ever put their toe to the oche,” says Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director, Ian Flack. “The event’s history and heritage mean that, after the World Championships, it’s the tournament every player wants to win.”
He adds: ““We are delighted to be partnering with Premier Sports. Their passion for the sport means they (and Winmau TV) are broadcasting over 20 hours of live darts, which will be of the highest standard.
“We’re at The Lakeside, the home of darts, once again and the competition is going to be white hot. If you can’t make it in person, watching the action live on Winmau TV, Premier Sports or eir Sports is the next best thing.”
Current World Master and number one seed Glen Durrant will defend his title as part of a field of more than 500 players from 30 countries.
In the Ladies event, reigning champion and number 3 seed, Aileen De Graaf will compete against the world’s finest players in a bid to retain her 2015 title.
The winner of last year’s Girls competition, Danielle Ashton, will be competing again but, having turned 18, will participate in the Ladies event. 2015 Boys champion, Justin Van Tergouw, will defend his title.
The tournament will also host the finals of the Winmau World Disability Darts Association World Masters in which Belgian superstar Vincent D’hondt will defend his title against 15 other finalist contenders.
Premier Sports operates via Sky channel 428 (SD) and 462 (HD), Virgin channel 551 and via the Premier Player online. The broadcaster currently shows Rugby League from the NRL and League 1 in the UK, American sports including the NHL and NASCAR and football from around the world.
