A question about Carbon-Shafts and shaft breaking Robin Hoods
Here is the story. First i used simple short Bulls B-Grip TT plastic shafts. But had a lot of Robin Hoods and broken shafts. Then i changed to alu spinning shafts. Them worked a lot better with my 22gr Barrels. No Robin Hoods anymore  Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images. . But some month ago  i changed to low weighted 16gr Barrels, and i was not comfortable with the "heavy" spinning shafts anymore. The best feeling with these darts i got with the old Bulls shafts, but with them also the shaft breaking Robin Hoods came back :s

Long story, short question, i found these short Unicorn Sigma CR3 Carbon shafts. They have the same weight and the length the B-grip has. Are they harder to destroy, or do they break as easy as a plastic shaft after a Robin Hood?

Yeah, they can snap like everything else. Problem is carbon fiber is brittle. It's strong but doesn't have any bend or flex.

I had L Style carbon (the old style) before and snapped a bunch of them. I use heavier barrels though. Then about 2 years ago I started using the L Style Shell Lock punch that puts a cap on the end. I've had the same set of medium carbon stems for 2+ years now without any breaking. I play a lot too. Very impressed with the durability.

The nice thing about carbon is the flight tangs are very tight on the flight...so you don't have a big gap for a point to slip under. But if you do, there is no bend, it just snaps immediately.

Thanks for that advice. Not cheap - because i think i need the L Style Shell Lock Punch -  but if i need only one set for years it will pay off.

So far I have not been that impressed with carbon stuff for darts, I think there is one carbon stem that seems strong though, I think it was the Winmau one

If you mean the winmau carbon fibre stems, I have to agree. Great stem, seems to be a bit more flexible than other carbon stems which helps to prevent them from breaking. Sadly I only find them in one length.

Could always go down the Cosmo route. Might be expensive but the way the flights connect to the stems it makes robin hoods impossible.

Using lighter darts you might get away with the Cosmo and other similar systems...I know when I used them the flights fell victim...I have most success with my pro-grips, titanium rings and punched flights....I find the rings are that strong that they help to stop any breakage from a robin hood....worth a try at the price and you can judge for yourself Guests cannot see images in the messages. I just put these carbon stems with the titanium ring on my set-up and yes they are nice but they twist off too easy. They come with rubber washers but they're just like aluminum stems twisting off on me. I like the looks of them and even thought about putting some glue on them to hold them better but,I went back to pro-grips with lock washers and they have been working most faithfully for me and much more cheap.

okay it seems as i should try a locksystem on nylon/platic instead of expensive carbon/titanium/whatever shafts.

Thanks guys.

Btw. what is the biggest differnt between the L-Style Locksystem an the Whizlock?

The Winmau carbon fibre stems aren't pure carbon fibre, they're carbon fibre-reinforced polymer. DC has them in medium, short and extra short.

Thanks. Will get some with my next order. Really like them. Good that they finally have the other lengths at DC.

Its not only that, the lstyle has a more aerodynamic shape as well as cuts to slot the flight into, thus helping it hold the flight into shape. The Whizlock purely holds the stem tight. Also one thing i found the cut by the Winmau punch was bigger than the caps and left a small but annoying gap.
