Hi,
i have only recently joined this forum, my name is Harry.
I am looking at purchasing a new set of darts which would be perfect for a rear gripper and preferably with a datum point at the rear,
I grip the dart with thumb and forefinger just where the barrel meets the stem ( almost like steve beaton)
and i also place my middlefinger on the very front of the barrel,
i started playing darts with a phase 5 lp / john lowe style profile, and have since moved onto using the winmau vanquish. i have tried darts with a scallop at the rear but the scallop just never feels correct for me.
my darts are grouping well but sometimes enter the board at slightly different angles, i believe this issue is caused by my inconsistent gipping of the dart hence the need for a datum point. i normally throw 25g barrels with a 4g heavyweight stem.
Does anybody have any recommendations please.

Hiya, welcome to the forum!
Here's what a few minutes of searching brought up for me, let me know what you think of some of these:
https://www.reddragondarts.com/det/13977...g-23-gram/ (lighter than your usual but the grip is right where you grip)
https://www.reddragondarts.com/det/14693...h-25-gram/ (a straight barrel so unlike your Vanquish darts, but grip is also there and in your weight)
https://www.puredarts.co.uk/eagle-power-...darts.html (pictures probably don't do this set justice, grip is there and only 1g off your usual)
https://www.puredarts.co.uk/elkadart-dar...5-gms.html (your weight, grip is slightly further forward though)
https://www.dartscorner.co.uk/product_in...s_id=72319 (perhaps a bit front loaded but grip is present and goes to the back)
https://www.dartscorner.co.uk/product_in...s_id=38655 (1g up but don't think you could get more of a datum point than this!)

It sounds like you grip you're dart very similar to me.
I have my thumb resting on the join of the back of the barrel and the stem. And my ring finger rest where the point meets the barrel. I have found that a bull nose dart give a good reference point for the ring finger.

The darts I like to play with depending on my mood are:
24g Michael smith unicorn darts
26g harrows glen Durant darts
24g target Alan Norris darts
26g target gen2 to y o Shea darts gen 2.
Good luck in you're search , I love trying new rear grip darts and reading about fellow extreme rear grippers set up etc. Keep us updated on the ones you chooses.

Phil Taylor Gen3 would be my suggestion,
It sounds like I have a very similar grip to you and moved from the Gen2 to Gen3 after recommendations from fellow Nutz.
Couldn't get on with the tiny flights though.
Cheers

thanks. i have always liked the look of the Taylor gen 2, why do you prefer the gen 3 over the gen 2 ? i could not get on with small flights with my phase 5 darts as they would dip alot , so i used slim flights for a short while and now i use standard flights with a few mm cut of the sides as a compromise which i find much better.
here is a picture of the darts i use/ have used in the past.

I think it also depends on how you throw the darts, look at Beaton he has a front weighted dart but grips it on the stem?

that is okay , the darts in order as shown are
:- 21 g darts from ebay , no brand https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182259095387?...EBIDX%3AIT
26g phase 5 lp purist
winmau testament with modification ( lp grip on rear and ring grip on nose)
winmau vanquish
custom made darts from madhouse 25g
the phase 5 lp are excellent darts but the lack of grip on the nose was the reason i then had some winmau testaments customized,
at the minute i prefer the winmau vanquish darts the shape of these darts is great, its just i would prefer a datum point on the rear.
and the custom darts turned out amazing but unfortunately i find myself wanting to grip behind the scallop all of the time.

To answer your question Harry I prefer the Gen3s over the Gen2 more for looks if honest, also the Gen2 quattros can take some getting used to with the squarish shape of where we grip.
I use my Gen2 quattros if I feel my grip is slipping as the thumb sections train me back in (but the darts having blue on them does bother me as I am limited when dressing them up, and as a Celtic fan blue is a colour of the rivals.)
But I throw just as well with both sets.
Cheers
