Unicorn

wire dart shafts.
Hello, nutzs
Been eyeing up on the dart clearance site (ebay) some wire stems always fancied trying some. Do any of you out there use/used them? Any opinions good or bad.

Advertised as : blue steel wire  shafts, short.  5 sets £2.99.

Are you referring to something similar to the Dyna Star system where you have a metal or nylon threaded end to screw into the barrel and a thin metal shaft about the size of a large sewing needle for the flight to attach to?  The Dyna Star system requires you to use their flights since they snap on the end of the thin wire shaft.   I've seen other style shafts similar to the Dyna Stars that have the regular 4 prong end for using conventional flights.

If so, I've used that system in the past and found that they do bend fairly easily when the darts bounce out and hit the floor, and I have a piece of carpet under my board so they don't land directly on the hard flooring.   They can be straightened out for a while, but after several bounce outs and bends they tend to stay out of round and I didn't find that acceptable.

For that price for 5 sets, it is not going to break the bank to give them a try, but there is a reason they are so deeply discounted as it seems to be a passing fad, much like moveable point darts.

Thanks gumbo for the information yeah they are the wire stem with metal tangs for standard flights. Like you said are cheap but if they are prone to bending might pass on them. Thanks again.

If you mean these - https://www.dartscorner.co.uk/product_in...s_id=50461 - they have been around ages. I tried them years ago and didn't like them - as said above they are prone to bending

Yeah not keen on them either

Sorry guys the ones I'm talking about are metal screw base which fit into the barrel wire stem and then metal top looks like ordinary aluminium. Thanks guys

Been there done that, they are as tough as nails. Spring steel body if I'm not mistaken, so they hardly bend. Sexy as hell as they almost 'disappear' on the board or when you look at them from the side!  Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Psst! Don't tell anyone, but I'm still using one from over 20-25 years ago and mine's a medium, so the short you were thinking of should be ever harder to bend.

Not sure about the tops, but while I may be mistaken, the wire looks like spring steel.

Those are very common, well, at least in the US. Try any of the UK online stores under wire shafts/stems. I'm sure some of the stores have them.

https://www.puredarts.co.uk/search/resul...wire+stems

Apparently Target also makes / used to make them. Not sure of the availability: https://www.target-darts.co.uk/shafts/wi...-blue.html

Check ebay as well for any possible good deals under 'Steel Wire Stems' or 'Steel Wire Shafts'. I know US store have tons of them.

One possibility are the Unicorn Jet Stems, but they are steel bodied with plastic: https://www.dartscorner.co.uk/product_in...ts_id=1334

And if you like, these are quite interesting: Springy plastic with alloy tops. Said by another member to be almost 'everlasting':  https://www.reddragondarts.com/det/1756/...A-Threads/

Hope this helps me8!  Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.
