Tips on the skinny/fat darts choice ?
    Hey folks

Ive posted a wee pic of my grip and my top dart (Unicorn Gripper 24g). With this dart I hit a LOT of 140s but only a 180 on a near perfect group (two a week on avg. this year so far in practice). Fat dart throwers (not your bellies) will no doubt have the same issue in that the third throw and sometimes second will rattle the first and block the treble and/or go anywhere.

With straight darts like my Harrows Supergrip I could put 6 in the treble if I could only get the same accuracy and flight quality. So what do I do ? I spend a fortune on darts which I end up trading etc cos you cant try before you buy right ? I came to the conclusion that I need a fat bit in the middle to 'push against' as such which tapers in at the front to allow grouping but as you know it doesn't always work like that - they all behave different.

So my question is this ....... who has had the same issue and do you have any tips (darts OR technique) ? Taylor does it with fat darts but I aint Taylor. Last 3 games I played (first to ten legs against local players) I have gone 68/79/74 averages so I'm not moaning but the right arrow I'm hoping can push this up 5-10pts as the way I see it its the ones that go awry off the barrel that's the issue. Alternative may be the right straight dart and just persevere so tips from those who turned to straight barrels from fat and maybe changed the throw etc is welcome also.

In short I'm sick of spending £££ but wanna improve my game. Darts I own are listed below so You have an idea.

Unicorn Gripper 2 (24g - can be deadly with these)
Snakebite (fat 26g - good with these)
Voks Jagger (23g - cool but inconsistent)
Bulls Radar (24g - nice but weight too far forward)
Target Deller (23g - struggle with them)
Carerra C3 & C9 (24 & 25g - VERY close to the grippers)
Winmau Sniper (23g - like em but inconsistent)
Winmau Series 9.0 (24g same as Hi Impact 2 - good)
Harrows Supergrip (straight 23g - good not great)
Harrows Atomic (tapered 25g - again good not great)

Anyway - I know we're all different and we all favour different darts but Im genuinely interested if someone out there found that extra performance somewhere .....

Cheers folks

Oh btw Ive found with long straight barrels they lie down with my throw (regardless of set up) allowing the 'overstacker' but often meaning switching to 19s on dart 2

Have almost same issue as i throw darts with almost exact diameter as yours, thought of trying those two as they are a slimmer, yet still somewhat bulletshaped dart:

Unicorn Contender Kyle Anderson 23g

Designa Black Shadow

cheers man - i did look at the Andersons - got grip n shape i like  .... the desginas Ive seen - they have an elongated version of my grippers and those you posted kinda look like a cheap version of Barneys current dart .... ive yet to find a cheap dart that flies nice but then maybe that's just me but yeah these are considerations especially due to price and reductions on Unicorns which I think have the best grip

I use fat darts, and Storm points really help the darts slide past each other.
26's so far this year: I've already lost count. :-)

Yep, agree with that  - 30 mm Storms make a good difference in how tight the darts can sit...Its the first thing i get for a new set of darts.

really ? hey that surprises me as I assumed they 'hit' before a point made contact with the board ... what length points do you advise ? ...

i like this theory ... so next question - where can i get a repointer without spending silly money ? (the wife will point out how she could've had a new handbag for the same money)

The Designa Repointer is what most folks over here use,

https://www.dartscorner.co.uk/product_in...s_id=67409

Otherwise, Darts Corner offers a free repointing service with every set of new darts you buy:

Cushty ... im doing this - the grippers pull the fibres out the board anyway so gotta be a worthwhile few quid ....

You need a re-pointer, period. Not a new re-pointer. Point out, she already has a handbag. You do not have a re-pointer.

Thunk, thunk, thunk, walk, chalk, pull, turn, walk, turn, repeat...

Lumina 23g are similar dimensions to the 24g gripper, but a smaller diameter.

Ok - wee update in case others identify with my thread - I bought Sigma's and Andy Hamilton's ... sold the ones I cant throw on ebay to pay for it and problem solved ... these sets slide right by each other into the bed, I shoulda just spent the cash in the first place. Sigmas especially I dont think can be beat - they taper right into the point and no flight interference etc which is how they are marketed I suppose
