Shot Darts

Advice from the experienced players, please
Hi guys

Id like a quick appraisal from the experienced guys here:

I have taken most of January off and barely practiced however the last few days ive logged a few minutes here and there and basically played about 17 legs of 5p1 against myself.

The results:

60-99: 41
100-139:  18
140-179: 2
Ave chck out 25.5
Highest score: 140
Chk out success: 33
3da: 54

I know my checkouts let me down, however they are scores 'cold' with no practice straight in.

Where do uou think im at. I think if i got my checkouts in on the 100+ id be in a consistent 70+ average

Opinions oh gurus please

The best players in the world have a checkout % ranging from 32 to 47%. If i'm reading what you typed correctly you have some high class checkout standards. 33% right?

Just a guess here, but I suspect you're wasting a lot of darts setting up or getting to a finish? Work on that maybe?

Hi Cy

Thank u. Believe it or not 33% is actually quite low for me as its usually around 40. Didnt realise those stats.

I do waste so many outshots tho

Well then my friend. You're a world class finisher for sure.

Must be some other part of your game that is severely lacking?

*** Over Analysis Warning ***

I love to over-analyze stuff so I find Pro Darter a useful tool.  If you don't already use it for 501 you should give it a try.  One thing it gives you is a breakdown of your scores like this...

www.pro-darter.com/match-history.php?match=3114772541370881

I have pumped these figures into a spreadsheet to graph the numbers...

I have a 55-ish PPT average which I would like to get to 60.  Looking at the graphs I have too many scores in the 40's which I means I need to get rid of the slack darts.  There's no reason why I can't hit 3 in the 20 segment each visit.

Also, I work on the principle that a checkout percentage of 20% will take mean I need to score at 70 PPT throw if I want an overall average of 60 PPT.  Those 4 darts which effectively score zero will obviously bring the average down.

Best 501: 13 darts (League), 14 darts (Pro Darter)

Best Checkout: 154 (League), 160 (Pro Darter)

Are those stats for one player or both players together?

OK, so that guy plays a 28 dart game on average -- some shorter, some longer.

In the worst case, it  looks like 41 * 60,  18*100 and 2*140 spread over 17 games. That is almost 74 PPR of "the good stuff" (5760/61). To get to an average of 54, you need to score an average of 34 PPR of "the not so good stuff", if you throw just as many rounds of the "not so good stuff".  That would mean 4 rounds of good stuff, and 4 rounds of not so good, which gives you 8 rounds ( 24 darts ) and you are below 100 ( around 60 something after 24 darts ).

If it is more like 41*80,  instead of 41*60, then you're coming down at 87 PPR, and  the loose darts are even looser (21 PPR)  to balance the average.  In reality, it is probably somewhere between the two.

Now, you need to know if the good stuff happens all at once, then you struggle to get to a double, or if the lower scoring shots are mixed in with the good stuff.

One says you need to improve on spot shooting at different targets around the board (struggling when off T20), the other says your consistency needs work (on/off the T20 each round).

At least that is what this guys analysis shows.... Your Mileage May Vary.
