Dave Whitcomb ?

Anyone know what his set-up was ? I always liked the way he threw those 'stumpy' looking darts and wonder what weight they were. Saw him playing Bristow' on the new 'you tube' link we have here and love the 'easy' throw he has. Any info would be great...j.d.

Some of the 'Whitcomb' darts that are on 'flea bay' don't look like the ones you see him throwing on t.v. so I am hoping someone will confirm the 31g...j.d.

I am lucky enough to own a set of his original kwiz darts (pre unicorn) and his unicorn versions. I am not sure of the weight of the kwiz but I think unicorns were available in 23 and 25g possibly 21g but I don't think so. 31g seems an odd weight to throw?

There were a couple players back then that threw heavy darts. I think Leighton was the other one. I heard somewhere that Dave used over 30 grams but I might be confusing him with someone else. The darts in the video are huge compared to Eric's 22 gram darts though.

When he changed to the darts he throwsnin the video, he became a shadow of his former self.

On YouTube, it seems Whitcombe throws very different darts throughout his career.

I´m struggling to find footage of Whitcombe between 1986 and 2008. I know he participated in the Embassy in 1991 and possibly the years before and after that..

According to this article by Dr. Darts, Patrick Chaplin [ https://www.patrickchaplin.com/Davewhitcombe.htm ] Whitcombe quit professional darts after the BDO-WDC/PDC split in 1993.

Yes, he quit darts in 1993, but he did take part in the Embassy World Darts between 1987 and 1992, so there should be footage of that and he also tried the PDC between 2004 and 2007 reaching the PDC World Championship in 2006.

And he of course took part in the Darts Legends in 2008, plenty of that on YouTube.
