Recently ive been having trouble landing the 3rd dart to get my 180's. The other night i threw 12 140's. Everytime missing the 3rd dart. I almost always miss the 3rd dart about 3 inches low. Any tips on how i can turn more of these 140's in 180's?
Lots of 140's but having a hard time hitting 180's

That is fantastic scoring. I would not mind having that problem!
There are better dart players here that will advise you better than me. But I would guess that you are tensing up a bit on the last dart. Relax and forget about it and they will come. I hit the odd one in practice but I do not get over excited by them. The reason is this: If the first dart is good I do not aim, I just try and follow the first dart if you get what I mean. When you see a player have to re-adjust or move to try and fit one in, they are the really impressive ones. I would be far happier landing consistent 100's or 140's because when I hit a 180 I usually follow it up with the usual 26 or 41!
I would be happy with 12 140's!
But I have this same problem at times I will hit a lot of 140's but just cannot get that third dart in, I think its just a mental pressure I put on myself really.
It's tough.
2 things that help me. -Don't pause or change your rhythm. See if there is room for a third dart and just throw it....don't hesitate. If there isn't any room, just for the T19 cover shot. IF you've already put two darts in the T20, the third one should be the easiest since you've found your power/accuracy perfectly with the first two. The more you hesitate/think about it, the more you're going to mentally screw yourself over and overthink. -Don't aim at the T20 with the third dart unless you have a wide open T20 area. I try to aim for my other darts. My darts lay flat so it's a little easier..but I try to visualize "setting" the 3rd dart on top of the other two...almost like I'm landing a jet on a aircraft carrier. lol IF you're hitting 140s/constantly hitting T20's with the first two darts, you've done the hardest thing already. Don't get too hung up on 180's though...it's better to just have consistency every round. Player's like James Wade are not 180 kings (he'll hit a lot of 100 and 140s) and he'll constantly beat the heavy scorers.
Gee, what a shame. You and James Wade have similar issues with 180's, and look where it's gotten him. I should be so unfortunate to have this scoring issue. LOL
Give it time, they will come. From all I've heard from the former players that are commentators, it is a tightening of the arm muscles that cause the darts to go low. Just putting too much pressure on yourself is what's likely happening, and the more you miss, the more pressure you're applying. Perhaps just walk up to the board, remove the stray 3rd dart and keep tossing it until it hits the mark to see if that helps.
I was watching a youtube video of Paul Nicholson. He was having problems shooting low. The commentator said "Shooting low shows a lack of confidence".
I agree. When throwing without confidence, the dart won't be thrown with enough weight and will drop below the target. Being over careful does that. When you stick the first two, just ram the third straight in! Same weight at the other two. When missing, I'd rather throw high than low. If you do Flight School, the A2 drill is helpful in this regard. (08-18-2015, 09:34 AM)Regulatori Wrote: It's tough.Verrrrry good advice from Jeff. + one for the advice.

Regulatori said it perfect.
I'll place emphasis on going for the cover shot though. Even if you think you could park a truck in that treble 20 bed just force yourself to go for the cover on the 19's. And yes, I know, 177's aren't as fun as 180's. But it will help keep rhythm and maybe build a little confidence if you hit one. Can I ask what darts are you using? If it's an 8mm bomb like Phil Taylor uses then you might be limited due to the sheer mass of the darts.
I've been throwing too many different darts Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.. usually play with stealths, but recently been trying to land a 180 with hankeys. So the bed is huge.
