God Speed Marvelous 15.5g darts review

Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPz1kDvuDNE

You may not have heard of God Speed but it is a Japanese company making some great soft tip barrels, here is the link to their site: https://www.gs-darts.com/en/index.html The model I am reviewing here is the Marvelous 15.5g and it costs 12,000 JPY which is around £62 at present.

They are 90% tungsten with 2ba thread for soft tips.

Strangely there is also a 16.5g version, only 1g more?

CONTENTS AND PACKAGING:

The packaging is rather interesting and neat, it has a card of Origami style about it with this cardboard outer layer folded in a particular way with a GS sticker. On the back is a detailed description and graphic of the barrels dimensions and centre of gravity. Inside is a plastic tray which contains the barrels fitted with soft tips and a set of God Speed flights and some clear medium polycarbonate stems:

The barrels are a fairly simple design and as seems to be the norm for Asian darts they are rear grip biased. Its only a short barrel though and has a pleasing shape and I particularly like the subtle taper on the very rear section with the dimples. The main grip is a thin cut triple ring style and its verging on been a high level of grip.

BALANCE:

With just the points attached the balance was pretty much exactly where it says on the box, about the centre:

With the supplied setup the balance moves onto the rear:

MY GRIP WITH THESE DARTS:

I found that the darts flew best for me with my grip just around the centre:

CONCLUSION:

I think this is a dart that is once again mostly and quite obviously for rear grippers. The grip section on the rear has a slight taper before it tapers out again and makes for a quite comfortable feel. It throws ok too when I tried it from that position so should be even better for natural rear grippers.

With the barrel been quite short it was never a big problem with my front style grip but I felt it worked at its best for me just around the centre. I found it to be a very zippy and flat flying dart when throwing there and was kind of surprised because it is such a light dart that it was so zippy!

But I think on the whole it will be for rear grippers, if your a centre gripper it should be fine but may be not so good for fronty's but as the barrel is so short it could be worth a go Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Quality wise the darts are top notch, the dimensions stated on the box: length, width and weight are exactly right and all 3 barrels closely matched. The barrels themselves are nicely machined too.

Well worth a look and at a not too crazy price! Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Summary:

Looks: 7.5 (just a simple but elegant design)
Grip: 8 (on a 1 to 10 Scale, 10 been severe grip)
Weight match: 8.5 (Very close)
Quality: 8 (good)
Value: 8 (A good price for nice darts and cheaper than a lot of the other Asian soft tips)
Suitability for me: 7.5 (suits a rear grip best but was better than I expected for me)

At first glance it reminded me of Jugger's darts.

With the small taper right at the back of darts I could picture these switched around for front grippers.

Once again, a very nice review on these darts, Darren.

They look the same as most of the soft tip darts from Japan. Lol - reviewing one is like reviewing all then.

Curious why they put most of the grips at the rear, while the front is very smooth. Was it designed as so with the assumption that soft tip darts can be reversed - for it to be favorable to front grippers?

No idea, but I wonder if the designs are so similar how they can compete with each other, seem to be all for rear grippers?

Sweet darts! More of a center gripper myself, but still very attractive darts.

Great review like always. Definitely a Purist type grip that's been squished together.

It's tough for us to find good soft tip darts....the Japanese soft tip world just isn't made for us front grippers. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

BTW...did you try throwing the darts with reversed barrels? I've found in the past the darts just don't seem to fly that well reversed.
