Hi guys,
Over the last couple of weeks I have been trying out various new routines - mainly aimed at improving my (appalling) doubling.
Right now my main routine in nine darts at 121 - if I hit I go up to 122, 123 etc... and if I miss I go down a number. At the moment I'm really finding how wasteful I am on doubles, but equally I do find myself going on a run and really building my confidence up.
I start of my sessions by a game of round the clock on singles (including 25 and bull) just to loosen my arm up and get my confidence up ahead of an hour or two throwing (even if it is at the biggest targets on the board! I'll play the nine darts for a good half an hour before heading into 501 legs for another half an hour.
Once I've done this I then go on to pro-darter.com and play a few matches against the computer - currently throwing against level 4 on a best of five legs basis. This gives me some relative match practice and allows me to keep a record of my figures - I have noticed that I have been prone to starting off slowly before really kicking off a leg. Since incorporating this I have been able to throw consistently in and around a mid-50s average. Had a game the other day where I was averaging just under 70 before missing six/seven doubles in the last leg before finishing...killed me! Guests cannot see images in the messages. The key aspect for me is confidence - if I'm confident in how I'm throwing I know that I can play. It's all about how I start and working from there.
Since doing this over the last few weeks I have already noticed real improvement in my game, and a more consistent throw. As an amateur player, this routine works very well for me in the way it just keeps the game simple and enjoyable, while still working on the important parts of my game.
If any of this can help anyone else out then I will consider sharing this a success. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.
