How important is it to have your flights symmetrical?
After re-reading Dirty G's process of preparing his flights by folding and flattening them so they sit as near as perfect as possible, I was wondering how important do you think it is that all the wings of a flight are 90 degrees and symmetrical?

Darts are thrown so quickly over such a short distance, is it possible that having one wing folded straighter or shorter than another could have any appreciable affect on the darts flight?

IMO its really important to get a true straight flight path.

I'd say it's fairly important as well - maybe that's why the Cosmo system works so well as the fins are always at right angles

but when you see many of the throws in slow motion the dart is often bobbing up and down or for most of the throw or its flying towards the board with the flight side either up or down, so can it really affect it that much?

Maybe I will try an experiment and cut little bits off one wing?

haha thats an old one.

The reason for the folding and loosening up the crease is to prevent the wings getting a twist in them like an airplane prop. I dont think that It would make a great deal of difference really Its probably a more physiological thing with me, more important to have them squared up properly I think. I see Dolan do it all the time looks like he was sitting on his darts sometimes.
Most of us have some sort of kick in our dart and If the flight is not truly square it should behave different unless you pick your dart up so the flights were in the same spot all the time(e.g. flattend flight parallel with the floor)
Hey its a game of pin point accuracy and I like my tools to be perfect so I cant blame the equipment for my ***tness and have to use one of these excuses https://www.dartsnutz.net/showthread.php?tid=1358

you see Taylor doing it with his mouth, but I'm not sure if that is a pressure thing as he seems to do it more when under pressure

Try cutting two wings off and see how the dart kicks then. Think of it as using an ore sideways in the water you wont get far, now think of using two ores but one is bigger than the other you should row in circles. Now think of the flight as being a double bladed ore that stabilize's and corrects our dart and the air is our water.

LOL

yeah but look at the flights in my 180 pic, they are not at 90 degrees

I know the flight is meant to stabilize the dart through the air, but I guess its impossible to measure the affects on such a small scale, maybe for me a flight that is not 90 degrees and not symmetrical works better lol!Guests cannot see images in the messages. I think that having flights squared up is important but not detrimental. There are more things that can adversely affect your throw than a flight that is not perfectly square. However, if squaring them up gets you into the correct mindset to throw then that is exactly what you should do
