So I'm relatively new to the darts caper, and am looking to just pick a set or two, as im still experimenting with weights, barrels, flights, etc
Just wondering if fellow Australians out there can provide guidance/recommendations around going with a local supplier vs overseas.
There are a couple of AU stores that seem to come up alot in my searches: DeadEyeDarts & dartshop.com.au are the two i've seen. (Ideally i'd like a place in Sydney where you can walk in and try-before-you-buy, but waht can you do) Looking through their stock on offer at these local places, most of the entry-level/non-crap options are starting at around AUD40 a set before shipping (which is often AUD10 or more)
But then i look at a place like puredarts.co.uk, which often has the exact same products for a lot less, and even the shipping is quoted as cheaper Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images. (cart shipping estimator says AUD7.17 for a single set!)
For example, Ruthless Ring Grip 22g:
- Dead Eye: AUD41.55 plus shipping
- Pure: AUD20.45 plus shipping (remember, no VAT for int'l orders)
I guess the determining factors would be shipping speed & customer service/returns. But i guess if i'm in no real hurry, i should prob just go with a place like puredarts, no?
Thx in advance

I live in Western Australia and tend to use Pure darts, Red dragon, DC & A180 for darts equipment and accessories.
Like you said not paying VAT takes off 20% of the price. Also 3-4 pounds postage is also very cheap. Items generally arrive in 2-3 weeks for me, which I think is fair especially when you are getting the items for a good price.
I also use the New Zealand based darts warehouse which provide good shot & puma darts equipment.
I buy my dartboards from Darts warehouse as I am a fan of the bandit boards and they provide free postage. So $65 for a bandit board including postage is hard to beat. Postage is normally within a week.

Before I completely bag Dead eye darts, I would like to say I have bought items off them in the past. I now tend to only check out their specials section, as they do sometimes have some good prices. It is just a shame the postage is so expensive and can take a week to get to me in WA.
We also have the Perth darts centre, which is a walk in shop in Burswood Perth. I have been in and the prices are very expensive. I think the bulk of their business is selling trophies, as they don't seem to shift many darts or the stock doesn't change.

sounds good, thx Smiling Assassin
After much umming and ahhing, and being totally overwhelmed at the sheer variety on offer, i just pulled the trigger on an order from puredarts. 2 sets of darts, 2 extra flight sets (that were on sale), and a sharpening stone all for 25 quid (AUD50) delivered. Not bad at all Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I've used Bullseye Darts In Southport QLD. Always fast to ship and I think if you spend over $30, then shipping is free. One in Melbourne as well but the name escapes me. Deadeye give great service as well that I've heard from friends who use them. I mainly use Bullseye Darts when I need something quick.
I'm not aware of anywhere that you can walk in and try before you buy. Most of these places are all internet based. I think the no VAT makes it more affordable than having GST put on all your purchases. I also find that from UK stores, I can receive my gear in the post usually within 7 to 10 days.
Darts Corner, Puredarts, A180, Red Dragon and Doubletop Dart shop are the shops I have purchase quite a bit from in the past.
Recently I ordered 80 sets of flights for a guy on my team. In Australia, it was $1.75 a set, so $140aud for all 80. Ordering from the UK based on todays exchange rate at £0.33 per set, so £26.40 works out to about $55aud.
I find it hard to go past the UK stores for prices. Even with postage, it's cheaper to buy from the UK than Australia.

For whatever reason I've found orders from DC the quickest at 6-10 working days. Other companies 10-12 working days. You'd think they would be all using the same postal system, lol. Don't know why it varies.

I would be very suprised if there isn't a shop in Sydney that you can try before you buy....you will pay though the nose for them though.
We have one in my town (100k) BUT you have to give great service and advice if you are going to get customers willing to support you to pay the extra $, unfortunately he doesn't....he survives by selling other stuff in his shop.

The shop in Melbourne is called Dynamic Billiards www.billiardtables.com.au/ and is in Preston.
Massive range of darts that you can walk in and try on their setup dartboard before you purchase, very friendly service. I have bought a couple from there and I live in canberra.

One of the local websites (i think it's dartshop.com.au ?) is located out in Penrith, but they specially say they don't have a storefront, and are online only
Surely there's somewhere in this town??

Bullseye Darts now have a bricks and mortar store in Southport, Queensland.
I popped in today as we are on holiday nearby. Luke was happy for me to try any of the darts he had so I threw the 14g Hankeys and some Carreras.
Not used their online services yet but would recommend you pay them a visit our you're in the areas.

I have used Bullseye twice now for gear to WA. Always been very very promt and communicated where things were at. Have ordered some darts from them that werent in stock and they have been great so far. They should be in their hands either later this week or early next and will be sent out the same day if its anything like their current service. Very happy so far.
Its all a work in progress... one throw at a time Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.
