Winmau Sniper 23g darts review

Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykA6iZs4VK8

Had these a long while now, I actually bought them when they first came out from Puredarts but only just got round to reviewing them. Not sure how much I paid originally but they are £23.49 at present: Winmau Sniper 23g

There is 3 models in the range with each a different weight, a 21g, 22g and these which are 23g.

They are 90% tungsten and quite an unusual shape, I think I bought them more out of curiosity than anything else Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

CONTENTS AND PACKAGING:

The darts come in a plastic pack, a kind of tray with a slide off lid. Inside you have the darts fitted with some rather nice carbon fibre re-enforced medium stems and some Rhino standard shape flights. There is also a point protector and hard plastic case for storing the darts and on the inlay card there is a handy check out chart.

Like I said above the darts are quite a curious design, the grip is quite varied and it is a very tapered style of barrel with a prominent scallop and some edgy grip sections, I would say overall the grip is near high level.

WEIGHT:

All barrels were very closely matched just three hundredths of a gram difference:

BALANCE:

With nothing attached I would say the balance is slightly front weighted:

With the supplied set up it moves just in front of the scallop section:

Balance with my own medium, short and extra short nylon stems and standard flights:

MY GRIP WITH THESE DARTS:

Below is the grip that I felt worked about the best for me, a little further up than where I naturally first gripped it but that is the area that seemed to have the best compromise of balance and comfort:

Darts landed in the board slightly flatter than my usual:

CONCLUSION:

I think overall this dart is clearly not suitable for my grip, it just felt a little strange to throw and I could not quite get used to it. I tried to persevere and play a little more but I think it is one to suit centre and rear grippers best but even then you may be particular about the shape of the barrel and also the grip.

The sweet spot for me seemed to be on the first two razor style rings and also just in front of the scallop but although it felt ok to hold there it still felt a bit weird to throw for me, I think if you naturally grip around that area you may be fine though.

The dart itself felt a bit zippy when throwing and the grip is very good and it is a nice design but not one that works for me sadly, but I had to try it all the same.

Quality wise its fine and nicely machined, I like those re-enforced carbon fibre stems though, they seem rather good Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

SUMMARY RATINGS:

Looks: 8 (a bit weird but good)
Grip: 8 (on a 1 to 10 Scale, 10 been severe grip)
Weight match: 8.5 (close)
Quality: 8 (Good quality)
Value: 8 (good value)
Suitability for me: 5 (shape is too weird really)

No The Egg - his darts are based on the RD Screaming Eagles.

Nice pics - been thinking about pressing the button on a set of these (and also the aforementioned Eagles lol) for a while now - payday at the end of the week I think

I have a set of the 22s that I got from Cankles and I really like them. Love the weirder designs and they throw well too. I just wish that if they are going to make darts with such a great pronounced scallop at least put a little grip on there.

Another stunning review Darren! Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Like Ni, I also wished that they would put the mini-shark IN the scallop, like the way Japanese manufacturers do. It just makes a whole lot more sense.

That being said, when you tried gripping and throwing from the scallop, did you at anytime feel that it was slipping, even just a bit?

I think the shape of the scallop is also a grip in itself really.

yeah I think its purely the shape that got me curious initially, its certainly not a bad dart at all its just I could not quite settle with it.
