Voks Overlord 24g darts review

Ok here it is, the review of the Voks Overlord!

Lets get the first thing out of the way first as I know most are going to mention it: Yes the darts are not cheap at $249 and its true they are expensive and the only thing I can say to that is they take over 16 hours to make one set and they are very unique!

A little more on this later though but for now lets get on with the review Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

The darts I have here are a slightly special set as they have a darkish grey finish where as the ones available on the Voks site are a natural finish. Still same darts apart from that though. They are available in 23, 24 and 25 grams, the set here are 24g. Here is the link to the darts on Voks site: Voks Overlord Darts

CONTENTS AND PACKAGING:

The darts come in the Voks cardboard boxes which are very well made with a couple of magnets to keep the lid shut and a window to see the darts. Inside the darts are kind of vacuum packed and are supplied with a Voks mini darts wallet and point protector, the darts are fitted with short alloy stems and Voks cloth standard flights:

As you can see the darts are a very unique and quite difficult to describe design but I think you can pretty much tell from the pics all you need to know really. They are kind of like a skeleton with the skull at the front and its ribs along the sides then a flame effect on the rear. The underside has a strange square and arrow shape and a kind of notched scallop near the front. Its difficult to estimate the grip level as its kind of different along the barrels length but on the whole I would say its a medium level.

BALANCE:

With nothing attached the balance was slightly front of the centre, but a little awkward to settle because of the shape:

With the supplied set up it was again a little awkward to judge but was pretty much spot on the centre:

MY GRIP WITH THESE DARTS:

I tried a few grips and this is the one that performed best:

CONCLUSION:

Well as you probably already know from previous discussion on here I love the look of these darts and for me they are unique enough to want them just for that reason but I appreciate not everyone will see it that way and as we have noticed already some will just outright not like them at all and its understandable too.

Some like me will think they are cool and will want them but again the price will be very off putting which is fair enough but the darts are very nicely made and to design something like this which is quite a radical design takes some guts from a manufacturer when they must realise it is not going to sell in huge quantities.

I applaud Voks for taking that approach though as I think its great they show willing to develop something from the norm and take a risk as it makes the world a more exciting place and from what I was told the idea came from a need to test the feasibility of making a dart that was not the usual symmetrical shape and seeing if it was possible to still function the same. They even employed a robot to test this theory out with this dart, that shows commitment if nothing else!

For me its like a mini work of art, almost like a dart sculpture which I find quite fascinating but I was also curious to see if it would actually function as a dart in the way more conventional darts do. On the whole I think its does. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

My video review is quite long as I wanted to explore all the details of the barrels design and throw it as many different ways as I could. One thing I thought would be an issue is the various grip styles along the barrel. So I started my review just picking up the dart with a random front grip and not really caring where my finger and thumb sat on the barrel. I throw just as I would normally and most of the throws the darts performed well, just the odd one that was a little askew. Then I was more deliberate on how I placed my grip. I felt the most comfortable grip was with my thumb on the flat square bit and fingers on top but that was not the grip that performed best for me.

The grip that worked best was with my thumb on the kind of scooped notch and finger on top of the skull area. I found the darts nicely balanced for me with this grip and the performed very well and were great fun to throw.

I tried gripping on the flame section but that was not good for me, it was very awkward being so far up the barrel from my natural grip but may be fine for a normal rear gripper.

I tried gripping from the sides which was mostly fine but the barrel would often roll in my fingers and I ended up gripping the top and bottom flat areas.

On the whole though I think the darts performed surprisingly well and the only real problem I can think of is the fact that when I was more deliberate where I gripped it performed the best but was kind of fiddly to make sure I was getting it right as I took the darts ready to throw from my feeder hand. Not a huge issue but it could be annoying to some if you were to find the same problem.

The darts have a rather nice feel to them too, the grip is different but although its probably just a medium level it has a nice feel due to the coating I think, kind of a matt feel.

So can you use these darts as you would a normal set? I think it depends on the individual and how you grip but I would say probably yes you can, the only thing is you might likely play best with a more conventional set.

So why buy them you may say? Well like I have said before it is very much a considered purchase and I think it is really something you would have to think about. I think most people should be able to throw them just as good as any other set and its possible that with a certain grip position they may even work better for some people and if like me you love the look of the dart then its really cool to have such a uniquely designed dart that is so well crafted.

In the end its up to you to decide I just hope this review can help you in your decision making Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I'm blown away by the weight. It's truly amazing that a dart with so much machining can be perfectly matched. That says a lot about Voks skills. Great pics and very unique review.

Yeah that's another thing I think can sway people if you actually get to try them and see them in person you may like them more than you would have expected.

Crazy darts!
I won't be able to throw them because of the fear to ruin the barrels.
Their place is on the shelves, they are amazing looking piece of machining.
Thank you for sharing this!Very interesting and i was expecting them to fly worse as you were, but seemed to fly pretty balanced.

Only the price of them does worth a +1 from meGuests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Wow - imagine if they would come out in gold and the flames will be bloody red and black.

I'll just look up at the sky and send my wish on a falling star!

Those will be my lucky charm darts!
