Target Tony O'Shea 24g darts review

Quite a few people have asked for a review of these darts so I guess they must be popular Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I finally got round to reviewing a set and I kind of knew or thought I knew what to expect as they are a classic straight barrel set with the even more classic ring grip but there was a couple of nice surprises in store Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

These are part of Target Darts Pro League range. The darts are 90% tungsten and are also available in 22 and 26 grams and they retail around £24. You can find more info on the Target site here: Target Tony O'Shea darts

CONTENTS AND PACKAGING:

The darts come in a slim box with a front and back window to show the darts. The darts are fully assembled and fitted into a foam insert. They come with a set of Target short Pro Grip stems and Target Vision flights.

The first thing that surprised me with these darts is how shiny the tungsten is, its very silvery but for me it seemed to enhance the grip. Physically its only a medium grip but the tungsten (may be to do with the shininess?) had a kind of sticky feel for me making it more grippy so I think its a high medium.

WEIGHT:

The darts are closely matched, two barrels the same and the third just two hundredths of a gram heavier:

BALANCE:

With nothing attached the barrels were very slightly front of centre:

With the supplied set up the balance moved a fraction past centre:

MY GRIP WITH THESE DARTS:

As I often do I tried front (my normal) middle and rear grip and on the whole balance was quite good throughout which was my second surprise but as is to be expected my front grip was most natural and worked well on these:

Darts landed in the board a little tail up but not as much as my usual:

CONCLUSION:

Like I mentioned above the two things that were a pleasant surprise with these darts were the feel of the shiny tungsten and its affect at enhancing the grip for me to some extent and the darts seemed to be nicely balanced overall.

I cant say if the feel of the tungsten will have the same effect for others as it goes back to that situation we have with smooth darts were some people will find them grippy and others slippy.

But the balance should be good for most grips, if I was pushed I would say its probably best for a centre grip but it often seems that way with most darts, but as the centre and rear grip is quite strange for me I was kind of impressed nevertheless when throwing in those positions.

One thing I was a little annoyed about was the 25mm points, its verging on the just about long enough but not quite for me and I think 27 to 28mm is better as I like to rest my finger on the point tip and it was slipping off a few times when throwing the darts which was a bit off putting. But I think its an easy thing to have some points fitted to suit my own preference but not sure how it would alter the balance, may be not much?

Darts are nice quality and as usual with straight barrel darts like this they will work well with a variety of grip styles. A good value dart too.

Summary Ratings:

Looks: 7 (just a classic look)
Grip: 7.5 (on a 1 to 10 Scale, 10 been severe grip)
Weight match: 9 (very close)
Quality: 8 (nice)
Value: 8 (good)
Suitability for me: 8.5 (threw quite well after a bit of practice with them)

Great review as ever.

I have the previous target model the Silverback ones, I wonder if there is any discernible difference between those and the pro league?

I think that is one of the reasons I never did many reviews on this type of dart really as they are all similar to the Brissy darts but I have reviewed more like it recently and a lot of people ask for such reviews and I think its simply because most people use this style.

But these are a nice dart overall and I was throwing all right with them. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Cheers JC. Like I say above I think the only thing I would change is a slightly longer point, but seem a very nice dart to me Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Great review thanks, I like the slight taper at the rear as that's where the inside of my knuckle sits as a rear gripper
