Target Darts.

Albert Gamble
Albert Gamble a Post Office engineer from Stockport Cheshire Is not a player most darts fans are aware of, yet I think he has earned his place in darts history in players of days gone by.

For what reason? On the 18th of October 1976, he hit the 1st ever recorded 9 dart finish in a league match, whilst playing for the Fingerpost Hotel, Stockport in the Robinsons Brewery league (a pub that is still open today) after hitting the two 180's he elected to finish 141 as treble 17 treble 18 double 18, the identical way as John Lowe elected to finish the 1st televised 9 darter almost eight years to the day later, on the 13th October 1984 in the World Matchplay Championship.

What makes this feat even more amazing is that the game consisted of one straight leg.

Well thats a great achievement and deserving of a mention if it was the first recorded 9 darter.

Nice one Neil I wonder was that with old brass darts too, I know tungsten darts were available then but brass was still the more used type.

Shafted

Not sure what he threw with Darren if you've got a copy of the Guinness book of darts there is a photo of him holding nine darts in his hand some look brass and some look tungsten, I drive past the pub he achieved it in now and again it is only a few miles from here. maybe I should call in one day for a nosy.

Just thought with the anniversary tomorrow that it deserved a mention mate

Interesting stat shafted

It's interesting that players back in them days went T17, T18, D18! My old man always said he would have opted for that route but it makes little sense to me.

Shafted

Just like to add, what made it an even more amazing feat is the fact he was playing in a 7 a side match, playing just one straight leg of 501 each .

How hard must it have been to settle into a game of 1 straight leg

Getagrip

Ah I think have seen that pic now that you mention it, I have 2 copies of that book, a great achievement all the same.
