Dartitis
Hi All,

Dartitis nightmare, arm locking up on the pull back, brain won't let me throw the damn thing. THE MOST FRUSTRATING thing i've ever experienced. I used to be a decent pub playing, now it's all i can do not to stumble over my feet. Has anyone benefited from any exercises/drills to cope with this? My board is sat on my wall, taunting me. Cheers.

Hi there, that sounds like dartitis for sure. A lot of people say throwing a ball against a wall helps, I think I had the beginning of it a couple of years ago and I had some strange problems throwing but I stopped playing for the rest of the year and then started very slowly back again just playing very short spells. I still get the odd problem now and then but I don't think it had chance to develop fully with me although I think its kind of there in the background still.

Dartitis is a head wrecker if you dwell on it too much. Yes, it sometime happens to players where it can be compared to the 'yips" in golf. Even the great Eric Bristow has had bouts with it over the years and it contributed to cutting short his professional career on the level he was accustomed to playing.

On a much lesser note, I've had a couple bouts with it over the years and it is, like you now know, very frustrating to deal with. I simply kept at the board tossing darts as casually as I could under the circumstances, but not aiming at anything in particular. I was just trying to concentrate on getting back a smooth release first. Once that became consistent, I would try to hit a particular target and if I felt it creeping back into my throw, I'd go back to step one for a while longer and just throw at the board.

The good news is, when I finally got over that issue, I was throwing at a higher level than before, so it's not always bad news. Just be patient and don't try to rush it.

This happened to me years ago and it was like someone had replaced my arm with a complete novice. Unfortunately it takes as long it take to get over it mate it took me about 5 years if I remember rightly it was terrible I was dropping dart on the floor where I was trying not to hold them so tight it's a mind messer just knock it on the head for the summer and have a little try in the winter as the more you try to push yourself the more of a problem it develops in to.

However everyone has they own story so this is just my experience.

Good luck shaking it off mate.

Heres a good thread posted not too long ago that had someone going through something very similar. Definitely worth a read Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I was ruined by dartitis back in 1999. It struck me during a league match. Standing there and couldn't get rid of my fist dart. I spent many hours/days throwing a tennis ball at my dartboard. Over and over. It seemed to help. But dartitis is no joke, I still have the affects of it 15 years later.

Fellow DartsNutz

I too had battled with Dartitis for 16 years when I came back in 2006 and started competing again I still had a little hesitation in my Throw. So I shortened my Throwing motion instead of bringing the dart back to my face and giving my arm a chance to lock up I stopped halfway and keep my arm out in front of me and shortened my throwing motion. It was actually a good thing this has made me a better dart player due to the Shorting of the Throwing motion.

The only thing that helped me was "CHANGE" You will have to reinvent your Throwing motion I also changed from 25 gram darts to nothing over 22 grams.

One exercise I did that helped me was standing at the Oche and not trying to hit anything on the board just aiming at the Bullseye. Hold the dart as far out in front of you as possible and bring the dart back past the side of your head and let it go coming back toward the Board beside your Head this is changing your release point which will retrain your Muscle Memory and your Brain Lock. Also take a Deep Breath and Relax the Mind and Body before you Throw.

It will not happen overnight you have to want it and battle though it and Practice Practice Practice.

Kind Regards
Bret

Hello fellow members,
I use the handle of, The Thragg and as such I am new to this forum.  I do hope I will be made welcome.
To cut a long story short I have been trying to find out something about a certain person named Bo-Jangles.
I noticed his name appear on your Website and decided to seek some information.
I have visited a great many Dart websites and quite a few make mention of him or her?
Apparently Bo-Jangles caused a great deal of consternation on these various sites, but appears to have just faded away. I assume that he must have had some altercation and had his membership or memberships terminated as I can't find anything that he actually wrote or indeed proscribed.
I would be extremely grateful if anyone could furnish me with any information in this regard.

I'm just left wondering why this is so important to you.    If this poster has disappeared from various sites after making dubious posts and possibly getting banned, how is this relevant to you now?

I've found that almost every website that allows members to post does have its share of trolls that think it is funny to post in the most vile, derisive manner they can just to get a reaction------those are the ones I tend to ignore and let the administrators deal with.  Absolutely nothing comes out good in one of those thread wars and they are a waste of time and effort.

I really appreciate your time and effort.
From your reply I deduce that you must have at least, read some of Bo-J's posts and although you don't actually say it: you seem to bracket B-J with Trolls, getting his or her jollies from being vile and derisive towards other members of a forum.
I thank you for this.
To put your mind at rest in regard to my interest, I think I have found a very interesting website that involves B-J

MY first question would be why do you need to know?

which would lead me to wonder if you are mr bo-jangles with another account? which i have seen happen many a time on other forums

and lastly, this is a thread about a chap getting help with dartitis, not a thread for you to hijack and clutter
