Unicorn board called Blade
I noticed while watching a classic match on YouTube that in 1998 the Unicorn board used by the PDC was called Blade. I wonder if anyone knows when they stopped using this name and also when Winmsu started using the name

I do not know the answer to that one, but early on in the PDC I'm sure they used Nodor boards. Or is my memory playing tricks on me?

I think I remember seeing the name before too, but I think it was an Australian who made the first Blade wire so its a little strange really, may be some patent was breached and then they could no longer use it?

The Blade boards are in the Unicorn book for 2000 as a new item, but isn't in the 2003 book - the following link is for the 2000 book

I'm guessing unicorn used the blade system briefly under licence:

Yeah, I've seen those in my old magazines. Odd that Winmau took/borrowed the name.

I have just found an article on the Winmau website which says they introduced their first Blade board in 1997

https://www.winmau.com/news/1390/15_Year...Dartboard/

The PDC used a Harrows Apex Wire staple board in 1997 at the world match play. It seems the original Winmau blade was used in the 1998 BDO world champs although due to BBC advertising restrictions it was unbranded

It looks like the Unicorn Blade was used in the PDC until 2001. Oddly between 2001 and 2002 they used the Unicorn Diamond which had Staples. But then in 2002 they started using the Eclipse which was a Blade board.
