Someone please help me
I am in a really weird funk I simply cannot shake. I'm over-thinking every single throw. It's been happening since I got completely creamed in a tournament last week. My throw feels unnatural and uncomfortable. I get to the line, eye my target, I get into my backswing and lock up. I hold my dart next to my head in the backswing and fail to throw it. I know it's all mental but I need some serious support here. Has anything like this ever happened to anyone here? How do you shake off weird mental funks?

Over thinking and low confidence are what I picked out.

I would just throw at the board not aiming at anything particular and work on your throw, follow through etc.

Build yourself back up
Play like it means nothing when it means everything

Uh oh. That sounds like dartitis. When you say "and fail to throw it" does that mean it gets stuck and you can't make your arm go forward?

Yes, exactly. I freeze up. Like a 5 second pause in the backswing and a finally force the dart forward with random results. Have you ever come across this?

Not to freak you out, but I had this problem hit me in 1999. It completely wrecked my once nice throw. I recovered from it but have never been the same. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Dartitis is BAD and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone... except SM.

Yes Dartitis.

But as Cankles says.....to follow on from what Spartan says. Take note.

The more you think the worse it will get. Take a tennis ball and throw it against a wall every day for ten minutes. Don't think, don't think.

^^^ That's exactly what helped me get over it. I threw a racquetball at the dartboard for hours on end. I was determined to not let it overtake me.

I'm not looking at the board. I'm looking to the left at my soft tip board and just working on stroke fundamentals and I'm liking it. More to come...

Some good advice posted here. Wishing you good luck and hope it clears up quickly.
Currently throwing 20g Wades badly at an Eclipse Pro

So Dartitis is a mental "Hiccup"...not actual physical discomfort in the throw?
